2002
was yet another amazing year for Charlotte.
Although much talk was made about this being the
year Charlotte would change musical direction, at
the end of 2002 one could say this was a year of
gradual transition. Despite spending a great
part of the year focusing on her GCSE's and
attaining success in that endeavour, Charlotte
still had an amazingly busy schedule in the public
light appearing on an endless array of television
programmes, performing at the Olympic games, participating
in a large concert tour, attending several charity
events and releasing her fifth
album Prelude. Taking the pressure off her exam revision for a moment, Charlotte picked up the 'Rear of the Year' award in May. If that wasn't enough Charlotte
made time to film her first movie "I'll Be
There" and collaborate on a one-off dance
track. Even Charlotte's harshest critics would
agree she's accomplished quite a lot during what
was supposed to be a quiet year.
Speaking
of critics, the UK press launched a
relentless assault on Charlotte and her private
life in the second half of the year. If there was
one major low point of the year it would be this,
but Charlotte went on to vindicate herself
publicly through a series of candid interviews in
November and December. In the end, these events
only proved what extremes the tabloid press
will go to in order to sell copies whilst demonstrating
the true strength and maturity of Charlotte in the
face of overwhelming scrutiny.
It
was also a year of many changes for us, in the
beginning of 2002, you were probably viewing us at
our former site, CharlotteChurchFans.com. During
the early part of 2002 there were many changes in
the direction at that site, the most profound of
these was the decision by the producers to charge
a fee to access materials which had always been
free. Because of this and several other
questionable practices at that site, the editors
of CharlotteChurchFans.com decided to create this
site, CharlotteChurch.net to keep the vision of a
free and non commercial Charlotte Church Fan site
alive for all. Although we've only been here for 6
months at the time of this writing, we've achieved
amazing success and have grown to become the
largest and most viewed Charlotte fan site yet
again. In November, we were voted into the top 100
at the DotMusic Online Music Awards in London for
the 3rd year in a row. Managing the amazing growth
has not been easy but we're hopeful that the
changes we have in store for the site in 2003 are
well worth the wait as we continue to strive to
keep fans informed with not only the most
information but the best information all for FREE.
So,
without further introduction we present CC2K2: The
CharlotteChurch.net Year in Review. Thanks for
your support this year, see you in 2003! -
