about the groups behind the special |
The National Adoption Campaign is a partnership between the Children’s Action Network, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, and the Freddie Mac Foundation. The overall goals of the Campaign are threefold:
· Raise awareness and educate the American public about the need for permanent, loving homes for the 134,000 waiting children in the United States;
· Find permanent, loving families for waiting children through innovative partnerships with the public and private sector; and
· Streamline the system to support prospective families and children throughout the adoption process.
The Children’s Action Network and the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption spearhead the National Adoption Campaign, which is the driving force behind the third
annual special. After last year’s show, there were more than 2 million hits on a special Web site that featured waiting children and almost 3,000 calls to a national hotline.
“We’re excited so many great entertainers are appearing in this year’s special,” said Dave Thomas, founder of Wendy’s Restaurants and the Foundation. “But, we’re even more excited about the change to help a wonderful group of kids find loving, forever families.”
“Perhaps the greatest gift a family can give this holiday season is to open their hearts and their arms to a child who is awaiting adoption,” Thomas said. Dave Thomas, who as adopted himself, established the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption in 1992. Children’s Action Network was founded in 1990 by leaders in the entertainment industry to harness the power of the entertainment media on behalf of children.
The National Adoption Campaign’s goal is to let potential parents know that adopting children from local foster care is a viable option and, because of changes in state and federal laws, is easier than ever before.
