Deborah J. Cameron presents “A Royal Christmas” starring Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer and Charlotte Church. The Corel Centre announced it will host this exciting holiday production on Thursday, December 12 at 8 p.m.
One of the largest holiday extravaganzas ever produced, “A Royal Christmas” features the most cherished elements of the holiday season wrapped into one heart-warming package.
The season's most popular songs and carols, beloved holiday tales, and the excitement of the “Nutcracker Ballet” will all be included in one night of glorious entertainment.
Andrews and Plummer, legendary for their roles in “The Sound of Music”, will reunite on stage as the Mistress and Master of Ceremonies and lead the audience through time-honoured Christmas tales and jubilant seasonal carols.
The audience will also join the entire cast in a grand finale sing-along of Christmas and holiday standards, plus selections from “The Sound of Music.”
Acclaimed soprano Charlotte Church joins the duo, along with London's Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra conducted by George Daugherty, the Westminster Concert Choir and the Westminster Bell Choir.
Knighted by Queen Elizabeth II, Dame Julie Andrews is one of the most beloved performers of all time. From starring roles in “My Fair Lady”, “The Sound of Music”, “Mary Poppins”, and “Camelot” to the recent Disney smash film “The Princess Diaries”, Andrews’ success is unparalleled. Winner of two Academy Awards, she was presented with the prestigious Kennedy Centers Honors, America’s highest artistic award, by President Bush in the fall of 2001. Andrews will recite from Christmas classics such as “A Night Before Christmas” during the performance.
Christopher Plummer will turn his phenomenal talent to the role of Scrooge from ****ens “A Christmas Carol”. Recently hailed by The New York Times “as the most accomplished classical actor in North America”, Plummer has won two Emmy Awards, two Tony's, as well as Canada's Genie Award. In addition, Queen Elizabeth II invested Plummer as Companion of the Order of Canada, an honorary Knighthood.
Sixteen-year-old superstar Charlotte Church will lend her celestial voice to favourite holiday songs and carols. With more than 10 million units sold world wide, Church's career is often compared to that of Andrews. “A Royal Christmas” is a rare opportunity to see Chruch live in concert.
“A Royal Christmas” also gathers together the most accomplished principal and solo dancers from England's Royal Ballet Covent Garden, Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Russia's Bolshoi Ballet, Ukraine's Kyiv Ballet and Shumka Dancers who will perform together in scenes from “The Nutcracker.” The acclaimed dance troupe “Shumka” will bring their unique balletic interpretation of Ukrainian folk dance to the show and perform the famous Ukrainian kick dance - the Hopak.
