Charlotte at the Aladdin
By
Jamie
When
we arrived in Las Vegas, Dave and I saw HUGE billboards with
Charlotte's picture on it. There was a huge T.V. screen
outside and Charlotte was on it and it was showing her
performance in Cardiff (Enchantment). Everywhere I went,
Charlotte's picture was posted somewhere. Now I realize how
people find out about her concerts. Hehh.
Saturday night, at 8:00 p.m. (their time) the concert began.
From 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. we heard and saw 3 people playing
their guitar and drums and people were getting VERY
irritated. We came to see CHARLOTTE. Not a bunch of
guitarists playing the same sound over and over and over and
over again. Eventually they got off the stage and Charlotte
came on and EVERYBODY was sooooo happy. Everybody started
screaming with enthusiasm. Charlotte! Charlotte! Charlotte!
She was absolutely beautiful. She walked out on stage from
the right side of the stage and had this white dress on and
her hair up and very curly. It looked like they spent all
day long fixing her hair! She started singing "Tonight" as
she was walking out on the stage. She smiled really big when
everybody cheered so much. It's probably hard not to smile
with all those people cheering.
I watched her face the whole time. I love analyzing people.
After singing, "Tonight"
she began explaining how she loves Las Vegas and "THE
SHOPPING, OH MY GOD, THE SHOPPING! I got this dress today in
Las Vegas!" Everybody cheered. Then she smiled again. She
said that she was going to sing "Somewhere" next. She sang
it and I usually don't care for that song, but she sang it
with so much feeling that I found something good in that
song. When she finished that, she sang "Papa Can You Hear
Me?" and I love that song and always have. Then she sang,
"Fields of Gold" and my heart sank in despair because
everybody else in the world was missing out when she sang
that song. There was a part in the song where she sang, "Oooooooooooooh,
Ooooooooooooooh" and you should have heard that vibrato.
Phew!! It was a fairly low note and it sounded so perfect
with Charlotte's voice. When she finished that song, I
turned to Dave with my huge eyes and said, "That is going to
be a HIT!!" I was about to cry because everybody couldn't
see it or especially hear it.
Then EVERYBODY stood up and cheered. People liked that
song!! I have that song in my head and I only heard it one
time. Eek! I keep singing that phrase over and over in my
head, "When we walked in fields of gold." That performance
almost reminded me of Whitney Houston. I mean, when I used
to hear Whitney sing a new song, I was blown away by how
good that song sounded and it was the same when I heard
Charlotte sing it. Move over Whitney. Heheh. Next, she said
that she was going to sing Bali Ha'i and the conductor and
orchestra did the introduction and Charlotte just stood
there and missed the place where she was supposed to come
in. The orchestra stopped and Charlotte turned her head
around real fast and said in surprise, "Did I just miss
something here? Oh my Gosh, everybody I made a huge mistake
and forgot to come in when I was supposed to come in. I'm so
sorry everybody, This isn't professional, I keep messing
up..." We all cheered even more and it didn't make a single
difference if Charlotte messed up. I think the audience not
only liked her voice and her music, but they obviously love
her as a person so her little mistakes didn't have any
effect on them. She smiled really big whenever everybody
cheered so much. What a pretty smile!! They did the
introduction again and Charlotte made sure she came in at
the right time and she did really well on the song.
I forgot what she sang next and the order, but when she sang
new songs, she said to the audience that she is a little
nervous because these songs are very different. The first
sound that she uttered was followed by roaring. (The good
kind of roaring.) heehh. It sounded almost like a rushing
wind going through the audience. The rushing wind was the
reaction from the audience. It was like she literally took
everybody's breath away for a minute. She had nothing to be
nervous about then!! It seemed like the teenagers especially
were impressed. It's more like their style and the adults
seemed to be happy I guess because Charlotte sang those
songs and turned them into something incredible! Basically,
EVERYBODY liked the songs. I have come to the conclusion
that Charlotte will
not be losing fans since she
changed her image. I am positive that Charlotte is going to
keep her old fans because she is still Charlotte, but now
she is going to attract MANY more people to be her fans. She
is going to have more fans (IMHO) than any rock, country,
rap, pop, or whatever star has ever done before. Charlotte
changed images totally, but she is absolutely brilliant
because she somehow knew how to keep her old fans hooked as
she attracted more fans. She is going to be BIG!!! She's big
already, but she is going to be BIG!! She will be one of
those singers that everyone considers to be the best ones.
Welcome to
Las Vegas
By
Dave
What a welcome to Las Vegas. I
saw three of these billboards from the time I arrived there
till the time I got to the Aladdin. Sure wish I could have
fit that thing into the trunk of my car.
The evening started
with Jamie and I meeting other CC fans. We got to meet
Steve, risktaker, friend, Alex from Australia, and Chuck
from Ventura.
After standing around talking to all these fans for a few we
all went into the theater and took our seats. Naturally the
anticipation was building, I have been to a few of her
concerts in the past so this should have been old hat for
me, but that wasn't the case, it was just like the first
time. Wondering what she's going to sound like, how's she
going to look.
The house lights just went out the curtains parted , what
the?? Who are these guys. Okay we'll give them a chance,
they're here to open for Charlotte.
I'm not sure what style they call that music they were
playing but after their third number parts of the audience
was chanting CHARLOTTE, CHARLOTTE, CHARLOTTE.........
Two more songs and the curtains close.
When the curtains open the signs are good for a great
concert, the orchestra is seated and Charlotte's favorite
conductor Arnie Roth is conducting. Charlotte starts off
singing "Tonight" then follows with two more songs from her
Enchantment album. What can I say she is enchanting.
I'm not a reviewer so I'm not even going to attempt to write
a review, just a few feelings.
Next came the song that made the evening for me "Fields of
Gold". If this is the direction Charlotte is going I say go
for it Charlotte.
There were three more new songs I hadn't heard her sing
before, first up was "Ain't no Sunshine" not sure about this
one. I think I need to hear it a few more times. Then came
"Everybody Hurts", I like it. The last new one from Charl
was "Desperado", another winner.
Desperado was supposedly the last song, well we out in the
audience weren't havening any of that so we called her back
for an encore. Imagine what it was. Then the audience really
told her how they felt, it was deafening. She finally came
out and sang "Danny Boy" for us. Well the crowd continued
with their thunderous applause but alas this time she just
came out to say goodbye.
Goodbye Charlotte until next time.
PCCS big time today.
