Charlotte Church in concert with the Charlotte Symphony

On Thursday night of this week I had the great pleasure of attending the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra's presentation of Charlotte Church in concert. First, let me tell you, it was absolutely the most enjoyable evening I have had in a long, long time, if not ever. Charlotte was in perfect form and gave a brilliant performance.

| She sang four sets, each with it's own wardrobe change. In the first set, in which she wore the, by now, familiar red satin gown with the sequined
Bodice, she launched into a resounding rendition of "Tonight" form "West Side Story" which nearly brought down the house right from the start! She then performed her signature song "Pie Jesu" which was, as always, heavenly. Then she finished off with "If I Loved You" from "Carousel". I hate to keep using the same superlative but it is the only one that fits. It was magnificent!

"I was one of the very fortunate people last night.
I got to attend Charlotte's concert in Charlotte, North Carolina, and
believe me her performance was awesome - it was nothing short of
"fantabulous". Charlotte surely has a gift. I have been to a half dozen Britney Spears
concerts. Britney is my second favorite singer. But I will tell you, there
is just no comparison. Charlotte Church is tops!!! Charlotte will be enthralling people for years to come with her "Voice of An
Angel." Words cannot adequately describe my feelings from last night."

For the second set she came out dressed in an outfit obviously influenced by East Indian culture. It was a gray top with a long multi colored
skirt. And let me tell you, she got some gasps from the crowd. It was slit very high up the side. It allowed her to tastefully show a bit of leg (I hope this doesn't offend anyone. I thought it just added to her overall look. In other words, I liked it. She then proceeded to perform "La Pastorella" with her usual perfection. After that she sang "Danny Boy" which the audience liked very much (we have a lot of Irish in the Charlotte area).

"I had the most wonderful opportunity to
meet her afterwards and talk brifely with her. She is so sincere and so real... that is what is so
special about her. I also had the chance of getting a picture of her and I
and one of my music students with her. What a THIRLL!!! So many of my
students are intrigued by her and Charlotte is without a doubt a wonderful
role model for young people today which we are in desperate need of. I have
been sharing this at work today with everyone."

After intermission, she came back adorned in a sequined gold lame top and form fitting sequined black slacks. This is when we all got a very pleasant surprise as Charlotte introduced a song she said she had never
before performed in public. It was a KILLER rendition of Simon & Garfunkle's "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" and it literally brought down the house!! It was fantastic!! If you
hear her do that song and don't get tears in your eyes, you need to check your
pulse!

She then did her "two favorite songs of all" "My Lagan Love" and" Summertime" from "Porgy & Bess".
Then the last and final set had her dressed in a red chiffon gown with blue-gray trim a sequined bodice. She started off with a song titled "A Bit of Earth" from the Broadway play " The Secret Garden" and finished off with a beautiful rendition of "Bali-Hai" from "South Pacific".
She left the stage to a standing ovation and it wasn't long till she was back for her encore. She started to let the audience choose which one to sing but then mentioned that they had rehearsed "Amazing Grace" and again the crowd
went nuts (we're in the Bible belt don't you know?). Well she did an absolutely marvelous version of this( she said this was her first performance of this song as well) which the crowd absolutely ate up.
This was followed by no less than THREE curtain calls!! I think even she was surprised by this. She appeared to be speechless!
All in all I have to say it was classic Charlotte at her very best!!!! If you get a chance to go to one of her concerts, don't miss it. It's worth every dime of the price of admission and then some.
After leaving the theater, I went around to the stage entrance and after about 20 minutes or so Charlotte came out. Unlike some of the performers today the feel like they are too good too sign an autograph, our Angel came straight over to a group of about 20 or so and signed for all. She made no limitations on access to herself and was willing to take as long as needed to be sure everyone was satisfied. I got an
autographed 8X10 and she signed the CD insert for "Voice of an Angel". I also got a couple of pictures that I will pass along to
CharlotteChurch.net as soon as I can get them developed.
Well there it is; a night with an Angel!! And what a night it was!!
