Brief show by the star with the angelic voice
By Niamh

THE Voice of an Angel, the title of teenage soprano Charlotte Church's autobiography is no idle boast as Dublin's Point Theatre discovered last night.
The 14-year-old star was sucking lozenges to soothe a sore throat all day but last night she captivated the diverse audience at her first Irish concert for those brief moments she was on stage.
Starting exactly on time at 8pm, most of those who had paid up to £40 for a ticket were stuck in rush hour traffic.
Her performance began with Tonight, followed by She Moves Through The Fair and Pie Jesu, the song with which she made her name. Other favourites included Lagan Love, Summertime, Danny Boy and the last song of the evening Bali Hai from South Pacific.
Star
appeal: Charlotte Church RTECO/Jae Alexander - Point Depot

Fields, Like many an upstaged adult performer, hated them.
But the rest of the world has always had a soft spot for
child stars.
At the
advanced age of 14, Charlotte Church is no longer strictly
speaking a child. Yet the tall young Welsh singer is still
youthful enough to startle with the assured vocal technique
she displayed in entertaining a large audience at the Point
Depot last Friday.
Her age
was also highlighted by the contrast between the gushing
geniality of her chatty linking patter, which was generally
delivered too quickly for audible clarity, and the maturity
of her singing voice.
This is
a wide-ranging lyric soprano with a strong lower register
and sparkling, if lighter-toned, high notes. She sings with
a good line and has enough flexibility to cope with the
divisions and runs of Rossini's song La pastorella.
The RTE
Concert Orchestra was conducted by Jae Alexander, who
doubled as a jokey master of ceremonies. They gave an
unrelated programme of film music and popular overtures,
sometimes truncated, by Williams, Rossini, Suppe and
Tchaikovsky. Anuna, who performed early in the evening, were
practically inaudible at the back of the auditorium and had
to contend with the clatter of latecomers.

After a warm-up by Irish band "Anuna" performing some material from "Riverdance", Charlotte came to centre stage wearing what sounded like that deep crimson satin gown we've seen in her in before and that she looks to totally "gobsmacking" in.
She was due to perform no less than NINE numbers, according to the concert program, backed by the RTE Concert Orchestra conducted by Jay Alexander ---
