It seems Washington elected officials can't get enough of Charlotte these days. Only one month ago Charlotte was lighting the National Christmas Tree along side President Bill Clinton, today she was seen at the Inaugural Opening Ceremonies for President Elect George W. Bush. It appears that Charlotte may be the only thing Republicans and Democrats can agree on these days, for her appeal certainly bridges across party lines. Politics aside, Charlotte fans the world over are just glad to see her perform again and did she ever put on a show today singing a song never heard from her in any other performance. (More on that later)

I'm not going to go really in-depth as to the content of the Inaugural Opening Ceremony as that is easily accessible from this features News Archive but it is an important event the USA witnesses every four years as their President elect gets to throw his/her(someday) own gigantic party. Lots of money is poured in to pull this event off and stars the world over are called in to showcase their talents in front of the soon to be most powerful man in the world. The 2001 Ceremony was much like previous ones in that the opening contained lots of patriotic displays to showcase the various branches of the armed services and their anthems. After the patriotism the stars come out to strut their stuff. The list was huge this year (see news/press) and included such stars as John Secada, Ricky Martin, the ever popular Wayne Newton and of course everyone's favourite: Charlotte Church.

The show went for about two hours until 5:12 PM finally arrived and Charlotte took to the stage after being introduced by master of ceremonies and international talk show host Larry King. Charlotte sang a song she's never performed before on Television entitled "Take Care of this House", an obvious reference to The White House. The song, which was written in 1976 by Leonard Bernstein and Alan J. Lerner, is a tribute to the White House for the U. S. Bicentennial Celebration.  As for Charlotte's performance ....you guessed it! It was as close to perfect as this song is ever going to sound. The organisers of this event certainly knew the right person to call for this job. After singing Charlotte made her exit and the event went on to eventually conclude around 50 minutes later.
