ABC Good Morning America 12/15  by Mark (Editor-in-Chief), Photos: Dave

Title: Good Morning America
Date of transmission: Friday 15 December 2000
Channel: ABC
Time: 7:00 AM
Charlotte's role in programme: Featured Guest

Unlike New York Live!, Good Morning America or GMA really needs no introduction..its your typical morning show broadcast all over North America. Hosts Dianne Sawyer and Charlie Gibson are mainstays at ABC and the show, like many others, is filmed live in New York's Times Square.

Before I get to Charlotte's summary let me just mention that one of the other notable guests on today was Amazon.com's CEO Jeff Bezos . I only mention this because it would be interesting to know if he got a chance to meet Charlotte as she has been on the top of his companies sales chart for the past couple of months.

On to Charlotte's Appearance...once again this was yet another Live appearance, Tomorrow's appearance on The Saturday Early Show will be taped. Charlotte was introduced by Charlie Gibson as having "the best selling Christmas Album in the Country". Obviously anyone hearing that would probably want to pay attention right away so I'm betting many were glued to their sets after that. Below is the dialogue that followed:

Charlie: I hope you come back every year and Join us for Christmas. Will you do that?

Charlotte: Yea! I will!

Charlie: I hope you come back until you are at least 104

Charlotte: Oh, can you imagine? I would have an awful voice by then.

Charlie: Last year you were 13, this year you are 61 :)

Charlotte: Yeah I've grown immensely.

Charlie: Lets talk about your schedule because this is just such wonderful success. Tell us where you have been the past few days and where you are going. Just run through it.

Charlotte: Well I was in LA, then I flew from there to Washington D.C., then to Chicago, then here to New York. Tomorrow I'm going back to London then I will be headed off to Vienna, then I'll be going home to spend Christmas with the family.

Charlie: Did you get any chance in there to shop?

Charlotte: Right after this I'm going to shop. (Claps Hands) Ohh, I can't Wait! Let me out loose on New York!

Charlie: You are just going to beat up New York City today...

Charlotte: Completely.

Charlie: Tell all the stores to stay open 'Charlotte's Coming'!

Charlie: Now from her #1 Christmas CD......and again have a Happy Holiday...Charlotte sings "What Child is This?"

Charlotte then went on to sing a flawless rendition of "What Child is This?" after the very friendly chat with Charlie Gibson.  Steve of Team USA had this to say :

"The absolute control of her voice has set in with a vengeance. She sang "What Child Is This?" with a level of skill that totally surpassed what she had when she first recorded it. The part of the song that goes "This, this" sounded sweeter and more enriched, with just the right touch of vibrato added for good measure. I thought I was completely familiar with Charlotte's voice, but I was more amazed than ever this morning."

After Charlotte was through there was another brief chat at the end of the show:

Charlie: You mentioned you are going to spend Christmas in Wales?

Charlotte: Yep.

Charlie: We've talked about this before, you speak a little Welsh..

Charlotte: A little Welsh..not fluently though.

Charlie: Can you do Merry Christmas?

Charlotte: 'n ddedwydd Nadolig (approximated using InterTran 2000)

Charlie: Well. just like she said :)

Dianne: 'n ddedwydd Nadolig

Charlie: Have a great weekend, if you are shopping in New York..Watch out for Charlotte!

Overall, another great appearance for Charlotte but you knew that already! - Mark
