Charlotte's role in programme:
Featured Guest
Saturday
Early Show is much like Good Morning America in that it
follows the same typical morning show format of having news, guests and feature stories. Saturday Early Show is
usually shown live from Times Square in the same studio that
the CBS Early Show is show in during the week but for some
reason which I missed the explanation to they had to move to
a different studio this week. I'm not sure of this is what
caused Charlotte's segment to have been taped a week and a
half in advance but it might have been.
Charlotte's
segment was taped in the little cafe run by CBS called the
Last Cup Cafe. Inside the Cafe set there are signed posters
from each guest that performs there and as you'll see
Charlotte makes an addition herself. With that said let me
go straight to the transcript:
Charlotte
is introduced like other guests to the Cafe but having her
name posted on a sign that overlooks New York's central
park. The sign is fake but the effect is nice :)

After
the sign is shown the picture cuts to the inside of the cafe
where Charlotte is finishing up "Little Drummer
Boy". Why they couldn't show the entire song, is beyond
me. Right after she finishes, Russ Mitchell comes on stage
to meet Charlotte and the dialogue begins.

Russ: A beautiful voice, angelic
looks, a bubbly personality and get this she is only 14 years old! Charlotte Church got her start the ripe old age of 11 on the Big Big Talent Show (UK). She has gone on to sell 6 million albums worldwide and has become the youngest artist to ever hold the number one spot on the Classical Charts of both sides of the Atlantic. Along the way, she has met such
dignitaries as the Pope, Queen Elizabeth II and President Clinton. She's here for us today to sing carols from her latest album Dream a Dream. Please welcome Charlotte Church!

Russ: Hey Charlotte! Welcome to the Show. It's a pleasure to meet you. You're success has been
phenomenal. I have to ask you, what has been the best part?
Charlotte: I couldn't say there is one best thing that I have ever done. Singing for the president was really really cool it was like "Oh he's so powerful!", Singing for the Pope was like "Oh he's so Holy!" and Singing for the Queen was like "Oh she's really British!" They were all really amazing experiences, I enjoyed some of the concerts I have given especially in America because they are the best audience, I must say!. I particularly enjoyed the concert in the Hollywood Bowl.

Russ: Wow, that's fabulous! Finish the sentence: "It's great to
perform in front of these people because they are all so...
Charlotte: Happy! They are all smiling!
Russ: What kind of music do you listen to at home? Classical?
Charlotte: I don't really listen to that much classical music.
Russ: Really?
Charlotte: I listen to "Destiny's Child", "TLC"..
Russ: Get out!
Charlotte: I do..really! Who else do I listen to? Santana, mostly R&B and Hip Hop, I listen to.
Russ: R&B and Hip Hop? That is surprising to a lot of folks. What do you like about that kind of music?

Charlotte: I don't know! Well "Destiny's Child" is cool because its like they have these attitudes and there is this whole
independent women thing going on. Which is just cool I love Lauren
Hill because she has a beautiful voice and great lyrics as well. So..its a whole load of factors.
Russ: Eminem?
Charlotte: I do like Eminem as well, but I have gone off of Eminem because its not fair how he said all those things about poor Christina
Aguiliera and all that type of stuff. I do like his music and
everything. (Audience Laughs)
Russ: Do you see yourself doing more Pop type of music in the future?
Charlotte: Well, I wouldn't say Poppy Poppy like Britney Spears Pop. I don't know because it depends..Next year I am going to experiment with my voice and see what I can do with it and mess around with different types of Music.
Russ: Well, you are 14 you can do anything you want. What are you going to do for us today?
Charlotte: My next song is going to be "Dream a Dream" its the title track off my new album.
Russ: Ok, Ladies and Gentlemen you are in for real treat here...Charlotte Church.

[Charlotte then goes on to sing a solo rendition of "Dream a Dream". As you probably can guess, it was great.]
Russ: It's is time now for some of you to join your local stations..for everyone else you'll be coming back to hear more from Charlotte, so please..don't go away.

[Cuts to outside billboard]

[Cuts back to stage]

Russ: Welcome back! As promised, we have a couple more minutes with Charlotte Church. Charlotte: Please come over here and sign our board. Now, how old were you when you started singing?
Charlotte: Oh I was like 3 when I first took an interest in singing. When I was 8 I started singing seriously, and when I was 91/2 I started singing Classically.
Russ: And when you were 12 you started selling albums that sold millions of copies!
Charlotte: That's basically it.
Russ: What are you going to do for us now?
Charlotte: My next song is "What Child is This?", its one of my favourites off the album.
Russ: Ladies and Gentleman, one more time..Charlotte Church.

Charlotte then went on to sing "What Child is This?". Believe me, it was good but for some reason CBS felt the need to cut off the end to show a commercial. I bet that
disappointed some but then again they did show the entire
song at the end of the show.
The Saturday Early Show marks the end of the USA television
tour until Christmas Day as the focus shifts to the UK for
once. As always stay tuned for the latest .- Mark
