The
quest for a very special Charlotte picture, one man's tale
By
Dave (Team USA)
Every once
in a while something comes along that you feel you just can't live
without, for me that special something was the Amanda Dunbar print
simply titled "Charlotte". Ever since I saw this beautiful
rendition of Charlotte spotlighted on
Oprah I knew I simply had to have this one of a kind print. Thus
I began my search. I thought my hopes were all but dashed once I
heard that only 100 copies of the print had been made and they had
all been sold in New York hours before the Oprah Show. I
never resigned to quit however and I persisted to search for the
print among the numerous Art Galleries in the Southern California
area. Finally my prayers were answered when I heard from
Amanda Dunbar's publisher that Galerie Adrienne in La Jolla
had the print. I called up the gallery and spoke with Ivanka who told
me she would happily call me as soon as the print came in.
The
next day Ivanka called me at about 11am to tell me the print was in.
To say the least this day began very exciting for me. I told her I would be in to take a look after I got off work at 3pm. Well I
made it till about noon and I couldn't take it anymore. I went and told
the boss I was taking the rest of the day off.
La Jolla here I come.
After driving past the gallery twice I finally found it. The only problem was
the closest parking was 5 blocks away. Oh well the walk was good for me.
When I walked into the place I thought to myself this place is way out of
my league. I went in anyway. I walked deeper onto the gallery looking for
"Charlotte". I couldn't find her anywhere. A young lady came up to me and
if I needed any help. Yes I replied I'm looking for
"Charlotte". She gave me a blank look and said "Huh".
I then heard another voice from the corner of the room asking "are you David"
I answered in the affirmative. Your early she said. She then took me to a
viewing room sat me down on the couch and left the room. About an hour later (maybe it was just a minute or two) carrying a
covered picture frame. She then hung it on the wall across the room (about 15 feet)
from me. I am so nervous I can hardly stand it.
She then tells me she hadn't hung it before because she wanted me to be
the first to see it. She pulled the cloth off and I don't know to express the
feelings that went through me. When Ivanka saw the look on my face she
got concerned and asked me if I was ok and if I needed something to drink.

I sat there for a good 20 minutes staring at Amanda's "Charlotte" and talking
To Ivanka. Finally when it came time to decide whether or not I buy
the print I simply followed my heart, there is no other explanation
for it. "Charlotte" is
now mine. My print was sent to the framers late this afternoon.
Afterwards it will occupy a space above my sofa as well as a space
in my heart. - Dave
