The Megaron

The evening turned out to be greater than we had expected! My Friend and I had 4th row tickets and hoped for a nice view of Charlotte, we arrived at the Megaron just on time ,we got a programme the staff guided us to our seats and we were ready for the concert! I have to admit that I always had some certain doubts about cc's professionalism though and I was never into that category of fans who would just die to have a photo taken with her or wait half an hour to get an auto ,neither did I ever liked an artist that much in order to call myself a fan. I always though it's silly or humiliating, and still do. But from the moment cc opened her mouth my views about her changed completely and I automatically turned into a humble little human that could do nothing but watch the concert with a mouth open! Overall conclusion ? That girl has worked really hard to reach this point of training, her sheer professionalism and artistic character are obvious and as soon as the concert had ended i was full of respect and admiration for her. One thing is sure, she has justifiably earned every little point that she possess!

THE CONCERT - First Part

Tonight
If I Loved You
Water is Wide
La Pastorella
Pie Jesu

And so it started! First there was an introduction by the ERT national symphony orchestra and no matter how nice they all sounded no one of us could concentrate! They first played P.I Tsaikofski's Romeo&Juliet -introduction Fantasy and then the West Side Overture and when no one expected cc appeared on stage singing Tonight. Charlotte appeared on stage with a beautiful long blue dress with her hair made into rings. Now i never really liked musicals but, combined with Megaron's excellent acoustics, CC's voice sounded so BIG and filled the room all over! You should just see the way she feels each note and the way she moves her hands and the expressions she takes when she sings, she is an artist with the complete meaning of the word. What should I say about her vocal abilities? It is obvious, not only from the way she sounds but also from the way she breaths, that she has studied on her voice for quite a long time! But no matter how good she was during the first part of the programme singing La pastorella , Pie Jesu and show tunes like If I Loved You and the traditional Water is Wide her vocal abilities didn't completely show until the second part of the concert. Of course that was because, in my opinion, in the second part the songs were nicer and also suited to her voice better.

THE CONCERT - Second Part

Bali H'ai
Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man
A Bit of Earth
Somewhere
My Lagan Love
Papa Can You Hear Me
Bridge Over Troubled Water
Imagine

Bali Hai ,that lovely song from her latest album, sounded to be just the right song for charlotte's mature voice. So after the introduction by the orchestra playing P.I Tsaikofski's Suite from Nutcracker, she appeared on stage again chatting between the songs and sang Can't Help Lovin'Dat Man ,A Bit of Earth, Somewhere, My Lagan Love, Papa Can You Hear Me, Bridge Over Troubled Waters and Imagine. Now from all these i would DEFINITELY choose My lagan love not because it is the nicest song but because she choose to sing it without a microphone! And what should i tell you about this! If she sounded nice with a micro without one she sounded 10000 times better and i really don't know how this happened! That was the point where her vocal abilities were more obvious, because we are talking about a huge concert area ,full of people and a 16 years old girl singing to the top of her lungs and sounding like heaven. First of all her voice was so stable and loud that i couldn't believe in my ears!!! Second of all w en she closed the micro, ready to sing the song, she approached the edge of the scene too much ,being totally exposed to the audience who could see her almost over their heads! Now if you ask me that was really smart of her, because she knew what she could do well and captured our hearts! Plus I  think I should mention the guts that it takes to be so exposed to the audience ,to risk in such a way and in the end succeed! So apart from being a good singer and a real artist she is also really smart, she knows her best points and uses them. So having done that and with a better choice of songs, even though during the first part of the concert the audience didn't look completely satisfied, in the second part it was completely thrilled!!

During the second part and apart from Bali Hai and My Lagan Love i also enjoyed Bridge over troubled waters which was really nice because it has this modern rhythm in it !For one more time this song suited both her voice and style so much that the audience adored it. There was also a little surprise for me. Songs like Can't Help Lovin'Dat Man and Somewhere that I have heard many times before and didn't like them, sounded really nice live and in the end I ended up preferring them to A Bit Of Earth or Papa Can You Hear Me which i used to like more as songs but listening to them live didn't exactly thrill me. Now of course when the concert was over she appeared again to sing a last song "because we were such a nice audience" as she said (but we all know that it was due to happen anyway )which was Imagine of John Lennon's .Now she has sang that song again in her concert in Cardiff ,wearing the same black dress she wore then, and even though the song is great and she sang it well, in my opinion the scale was too high and it just didn't sound right.

SO WHAT?

When all these had ended my friend asked me, so what? Well it definitely worth it's money and its nice to see once in a while young people taking music seriously and being successful. Thank you Miss Church!
