Mark's Thoughts by Mark Editor-In-Chief (October 20, 2000)

As many of you know now I didn't have the greatest experience in obtaining "dream a dream" I had gone to Target early on Tuesday (October 17) morning hoping I'd be one of the first to get the CD but instead all I found was an empty shelf.  I wasn't discouraged though and took heart in hearing all the glowing reviews both members of the staff and friends were giving of "dream a dream". The general consensus was that "dream a dream" was Charlotte at her best and that it even eclipses "VOA" and "CC".

Needless to say I was a bit skeptical at those statements, I mean after all how in the world could anything be better than Charlotte's last album?!

I waited patiently through Wednesday as I attended my normal routine of University classes. During the day I continued to read the positive reviews that kept flowing in my e-mail. Over 300 or so at last count! Nearly everyone was saying the same thing. "dream a dream is Charlotte's best". At this point I was more than curious and quite excited to finally hear this album I had been talking about on the site since late May.

Thursday morning I drove to Target, walked directly to the music section and finally saw what I'd had been waiting months for. It's absolutely amazing when you first see the CD on the shelf after knowing all the work that went on behind the scenes to make it.

After picking the album up I go to the checkout clerk and she asks me "Oh how cute, getting this one for your sister?" I reply, "No actually it's for myself". She answers "You don't look like the type of guy who'd buy a CD like that".  I'm practically laughing by now and respond back "Well, you'd be surprised!". I passed up the chance for a cheap promotional stint for CharlotteChurch.net but I figure if she knows about Charlotte she must know about the site right? Besides which, I wanted to get back to my truck to listen to the CD!

I leave Target and hop in the Expedition. After fiddling around a bit with the CD changer I get "dream a dream" loaded. One touch of the play button and I'm ready to listen.

The first word out of my mouth is "Wow" as I feel the bass from "dream a dream", the wonderfully done, quite hip, title track.  This song has a lot of pure aural power and it will take your breath away if your not careful :)  I finally get rolling and listen as each track astounds me more and more. I admit I broke the speed limit a couple of times (none of you are cops right :) but I was only doing so I could rush home and tell everyone on the CharlotteChurch.net list just how great this album is. After getting home and proclaiming this the best ever to staff and friends I listned to it the rest of the day unceasingly.

That's my somewhat humourous story about how I obtained this album now here's the part when I get to say my overall impressions and predictions for "dream a dream".

Again I was expecting something great but nothing like this. I never have bought a Christmas album for myself mainly because I think most of the newer ones are pretty cheesy and are quickly thrown together to make a quick buck, this however is well thought out and simply brilliant from beginning to end.  I'm not a music expert but I don't think there is a person alive today who could have injected as much energy as Charlotte does into these songs.

So is this Charlotte at her best? Absolutely! Again, I don't know all the technical vocal terms but she's got more skill and control than ever now.  Look, the critics were always wrong but now they are really, really, really, wrong.

Everyone is attempting to put some sort of catch phrase on this album but I'll simply call it "The finest holiday album in a generation" Yeah I'm only 18 but which of my seniors out there is going to dispute this. You simply cannot make a better holiday album unless of course you did it again with Charlotte.

My final advice and message to my viewers is this. If you buy one holiday album this year it has got to be "dream a dream" nothing else even attempts to come close. At 12.99 its a screaming bargain as well.

Predictions? "dream a dream" will outsell every holiday album this year and will be considered the benchmark for quality in the genre for many years to come. When reviewers say "instant classic" they aren't fooling around.

Mark's Rating - 10/10 (You really can't rate how good it really is with a silly number scale like this but you get my point right? :)

Good Job Charlotte! I can't wait to see what you got waiting for us in Album 4!
