Welcome
to the dotmusic chat with Charlotte Church
dotmusic: Okay, Charlotte is
ready to take your questions - fire away!
lisa from sheffield asks: what
other career would you like do if you was not a singer?
Charlotte: I'd be a philosopher
or an anthropologist - I find ancient civilizations very
interesting
Ian Massey from Tavistock, Devon asks:
Will your autobiography be available in the uk, and if so
will you be doing a book signing
Charlotte: The book is coming
out in April - it's a story about everything that's happened
to me in my career so far. I'll be doing some signings in
the US
Ben from Manchester asks:
You've achieved so much already - what ambitions do you have
left?
Charlotte: I'd like to go to
University, to try some different collaborations and to
branch out into different styles of music
SImon from London asks: How do
you feel about singing with Pavorotti
Charlotte: Im really looking
forward to it - he's one of the greatest singers of this
century
Charlotte: Russell Watson and
Vanessa Mae are performing as well. Vanessa is wicked!
Elizabeth Chatelain from Fargo, North
Dakota, USA asks: Is touring stressful on you or your
voice?
Charlotte: It's really
difficult - you can't scream and misuse your voice. It's
hard always doing rehearsals and I have to resist the
temptation to shout at my Dad 'cause he's always winding me
up
Michelle Boyce from Warlingham, Surrey
asks: How do you manage school work and singing?
Charlotte: On the road I have two private tutors. When I'm
at home I go back to school
Hannah from Cambridge asks:
Which song is been the most difficult to learn, whether
because it is on a different language or through musical
technicalities?
Charlotte: I sang in Spanish,
Italian, Latin, Welsh, English, French, Japanese - my
singing teacher teaches me phonetically
me from Adelaide asks: If you
really want to be famous how should you go about it?
Charlotte: You need to be
dedicated and talented, you've got to know that you have
talent and your Mum's not just telling you that 'cause all
mum's will say that
Charlotte: A lot of it is luck
- being in the right place at the right time. Also, you need
to try and gather as much experience as possible...
Donald Ruangsorn from Tampa, Florida
asks: The biggest topic going around on the internet
is the one about you turning into a pop star, Can U tell us
what we can expect from the **NEW** Charlotte Church?
Charlotte: I would like to
experiment with different types of music. Like Wyclef - he
played Spanish guitar against a hip hop beat and that was
wicked. But, no, I'm not just suddenly going to turn into a
pop star
Phil from Cambridge asks: If
you could be any kind of chocolate bar, what would it be and
why?
Charlotte: I'd prefer to be a
Galaxy. They're smoother and much tastier
andrew from exeter asks: What
do you think of the teeny boppers like Britney etc?
Charlotte: I think Britney is
really good. She looks unbelievable and she's an amazing
dancer. Christina's got a fantastic voice but the market is
a bit saturated with that poppy R&B sound
Len Colvin from Plymouth, Devon, UK
asks: Are you going to tour the UK and if so are you
coming down this way?
Charlotte: There are no plans
yet
Michelle Boyce from Warlingham, Surrey
asks: How have your friends reacted to your fame?
Charlotte: They've been great -
very supportive. Sometimes in the summer holidays they come
on trips with me
Charlotte: Sophie came to the
Grammy and my other friend came to Australia, Vienna and
Holland - another came to St Lucia and Grenada with me. Abby
met Ricky Martin with me.
Charlotte: He's really sweet,
he's really lovely. He's not obsessed with his image - he
just gets dressed like that, the first time I met him, he
looked like pooh....
Nicholas from Singapore asks:
How often do you practice singing nowadays, and what singing
tips do you have for sopranos like you?
Charlotte: I don't practice
everyday. Tips I'd give would be breathing properly and how
to control your voice by lifting your abdomen.
Elin Evans from Barry asks:
What's been the best moment in your career so-far?
Charlotte: that's really hard -
sing for President Clinton, for the Pope, with Wyclef and
singing at the Hollywood Bowl
David Clark from Murphy N.C. asks:
what else do you like to do besides music for fun?
Charlotte: I love listening to
music. Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Destiny's Child, Blink 182,
Wheatus, Sting...
Charlotte: I like reading and
going to party's with my mates and sleep-overs. I luuurve
shopping...
Guy Sartor from Tucson ARIZONA U.S.
asks: Do you plan to go to University; if so what
major would you study?
Charlotte: Either philosophy,
ancient history or anthropology
me from Adelaide asks: Your
such a good singer when I first heard you sing I was so
Jealous how did you start singing?
Charlotte: I never wanted to be
famous. So when the fame did come, it was even more of a
shock. I just like singing and I decided I wanted to go to
singing lessons.
CLAIRE WHELAN from BANGOR asks:
Do you think your singing career has changed you?
Charlotte: Oh no. Definitely
not - I've had to learn faster than most people my age,
dealing with business people and weeding out the genuine
people.
Claire from Paisley asks: How
does it feel having so much success at such a young age?
Charlotte: I don't really think
about it - I just take ever day as it comes. I don't have
the time to think about the circumstances of my life. I just
do it and go along with it.
Aron* from Nottingham (Uk) asks:
what would you like to say you have done with pride by the
end of this year? thanks :o)
Charlotte: I'm not sure
really...
JS from Arlington, VA, USA asks:
Hi, Charlotte! :) What's the most "wicked" place
you've been to so far?
Charlotte: I love Singapore,
LA, Rome, Tokyo, Amsterdam and Rio
Charlotte: I don't think I'd
move from Wales, at least until I'm much older
Joe Briggs from Charlotte, NC USA
asks: Do you have any plans to do a CD of the type of
music like you do in your concerts, ie: "Tonight"
and "Bridge Over Troubled Waters"?
Charlotte: I'd like to but my
schedule is a bit too hectic - perhaps if I* have the
time...
lyndsey parker from grimsby asks:
have you been watchin popstars? do you wish that you were in
a band like that rather than going at it alone??
Charlotte: I love Popstars. I
don't wish I was in a band like that but it does seem like a
really cool situation. I got to speak to them all and they
were really lovely - really nice.
Charlotte: Thanks for joining
me - sorry I've got to go and have my tea now. Bye! |
