NEW CHARLOTTE
CHURCH ALBUM ENCHANTMENT
TO BE RELEASED ON COLUMBIA RECORDS
OCTOBER 9, 2001
Los Angeles, CA -- August 20, 2001 -- Enchantment, the
fourth album from Charlotte Church, the 15-year-old
internationally acclaimed and multi-platinum singing "popera"
phenomenon, is scheduled for release on Columbia Records on
October 9, 2001.
Recorded this summer in Los Angeles, Enchantment includes
many in-concert favorites and highlights an extraordinary
array of stylistically diverse material, from operatic arias
and Celtic folk songs to Broadway show tunes and pop
perennials. The album was produced by Keith Thomas (Barbra
Streisand, Brian McKnight) and features such special guests
as renowned flamenco guitarist Jesse Cook and Charlotte's
longtime accompanist, harpist Rhodri Davis.
With sales topping eight million worldwide and an
international following that spans all generations and
musical tastes, Charlotte first burst into the global
spotlight at the tender age of thirteen with her smash debut
album, Voice Of An Angel. The platinum-plus release made the
Welsh teen the youngest artist ever to land at the top of
the classical charts, as well the youngest ever to have a
Top 5 hit on the UK pop album chart. Voice Of An Angel was
followed by a second smash release, Charlotte Church, along
with last year's hit Christmas album, Dream A Dream. She has
also released a best selling concert video and DVD,
Charlotte Church In Jerusalem.
With Enchantment, Charlotte explores a wide range of music
that is sure to garner appreciative new audiences, even as
it appeals to her established fan base with dazzling vocal
performances in the classical vein. Standouts include
"La Habanera" from Bizet's Carmen and Strauss'
"The Laughing Song." The album also highlights
exquisite performances of Broadway standards, among them
"Bali Ha'i" and "Tonight." Also featured
are renditions of Irish and Welsh folk classics such as
"Cerrickfergus," as well as "Papa Can You
Hear Me?," first performed by Barbra Streisand in Yentl.
Enchantment will be supported by an extensive promotional
tour, including a number of high-profile television
appearances, followed by a concert tour with dates to be
announced as available.

that the new Charlotte Church album, which takes the
teenage classical singer in a more mainstream direction,
will be out on sony classical Oct. 9. Now it turns out
that Church is moving to sister label Columbia, where she
will be worked as a POP, rather than classical, artist.
Columbia confirmed the switch, but did not have any other
details about the project, including whether the
repertoire would change. Sony Classical President Peter
Gelb coul dnot be reached for comment by press time.

Charlotte
Church duets with Wyclef
Singer joins rapper
In a bid to be trendy,
Charlotte Church is teaming up with hip-hop star
Wyclef Jean for a track on her new album. Church,
15, who has recently taken to wearing designer shoes
and appearing at LA parties in an attempt to ditch
her dowdy image, says that she is hoping that the
former Fugees star will help her gain some street
cred Stateside. 'Wyclef is a dude – the coolest
guy in the world,' she gushes convincingly. 'Apart
from being a fantastic guitarist and lyricist, he is
also really nice.' The pair first collaborated at a
benefit gig in New York in January, where they
performed the Gershwin classic Summertime. 'He
placed flamenco guitar on it, with a hip-hop beat,'
says Church. The track has now been included in
Church's forthcoming album, in an attempt to woo new
fans. 'I hope I won't be alienating my regular
fans,' she says, 'but I am looking forward to the
next stage.'
