Charlotte Church - Christmas Belle!
By Stella Thng, Lime Magazine
(Singapore) Thanks to Lyn (Team Singapore)
LIME:
We hear you have a smashing Christmas album coming up...
CHARLOTTE CHURCH: Yup, my new album is titled Dream
a Dream and there are old X'mas classics like 'When a Child Is
Born', 'Little Drummer Boy', 'Oh Holy Night' and 'Joy To The World'
on it. There's also brand-new tracks like 'Dream a Dream'. I
recorded it with Billy Gilman(popular 12-year-old US country singer)
and it's produced by the same people lwho've worked with U2 and the
Spice Girls. It's got a really cool beat with very dramatic strings!
Oooh! 'N Sync, Christina Aguilera,
the Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears are part of a star-studded
line-up on X'mas compilation album, Platinum Christmas. Wish
you were included, too?
(Pulls a face) Nope, it doesn't bother me
one bit I wasn't asked. Hahaha! But if I was invited to
contribute a song, I um... suppose I'd say yes - just to be
polite. Haha!
Describe your best Christmas ever...
I was 11 and we had a massive dinner around my
grandma's and partied all night at my auntie's place! And I got Iggy
as my Christmas present! (Explains) Iggy is my lizard. He's
about half-a-metre long now. Because we travel so much, Iggy's gone
to stay with our driver Jeff, but I can go see him anytime I like!
Lovely! What's your crummiest X'mas, then?
I haven't really had a bad Christmas yet,
probably because I'm still really young! Heehee!
What do you binge on during the festive
season?
Lots and lots of chocolate, Yorkshire
pudding and... Ferrero Rocher chocolates! Yum!
Have you ever experienced a hot and sunny
X'mas?
No. I don't want to. I like it really snowy!
Wait, it depends. If it's Britain-warm, that means rainy and
horrible. But if it's Australia-warm, it'd be great! We can all have
Christmas lunch at the beach!
Is Christmas shopping much easier
when you're a 14-year-old millionare (who earned 6 million pounds
last year)?
Not really, I get an allowance from my parents
and I'm only allowed to spend so much on each person. I still get my
friends Hello Kitty clips and makeup, just normal stuff! I buy my
dad socks and my granddad handkerchiefs! (Giggles) My family
doesn't ask me to buy them a car or anything!
I'm
in-between! As I'm touring at the moment, if I see something that
would be really nice for Abby or Kim - they're my best mates - I'd
buy it. (Excitedly) I've been shopping in Singapore! I'm
re-decorating my room Eastern-style and I bought this big dragon and
a dragon boat with all these little people on it. I've got a Chinese
king and queen in stone and tiny little Chinese babies, they're so
sweet! (Sheepishly) Everything I bought was for myself,
though.
What pressie would you give your crush?
My Christmas CD. Haha, not really! I'd
get something special from my travels which you can't get back home,
maybe something from Australia or the Far East.
What are your X'mas plans this year?
Same as every year! I sing a midnight mass on
Christmas eve. Next morning, I wake up at noon, go over to my
grandma's and open all my presents. All of the adults get really
drunk and all the kids sit around and play board games like Trivial
Pursuit!
Which Westlife member would you want to snog
under the mistletoe?
Everybody likes the little one - Shane, isn't
it? Well, I've met them all and I won't say any of them, really. If
I had to pick someone famous, it'll be Taylor Hanson or Wes
Bentley! He's that cute bloke from American Beauty!
Which Backstreet Boy do you want in your
X'mas stocking?
(Wrinkles nose) Ooh, I don't like the
Backstreet Boys, I don't want them in my stocking! I'd have JC from
'N Sync, please!
What would you give LIME this Christmas?
I'd give you thousands and thousands of
cool lime-coloured makeup, so you can send them out to all your
readers. Merry Christmas!
