Fame came when she was just 12, fresh-faced and innocent in ankle socks and a school frock.
But the early teens are a time of big change for a girl an even her parents must struggle to recognise Charlotte Church aged 15 as the child singing prodigy sold as The Voice of an Angel.
With hair transformed using tongs and extensions into a frizzy mass of ringlets, and makeup with includes lipstick, heavy gloss and smoky eyes she has clearly developed that common adolescent desire to fast
forward her appearance.
The new look was unveiled at a party in the notorious Moomba nightclub in Los Angeles marking the launch of a new album by the pop group N*SYNC.
It is the same club where Mick Jagger made his first approach to Sophie Dahl and a favourite
hang out of stars like Leonardo DiCaprio.
Impressive company for a 15-year-old, but it may have her cold as she has enthused at length about her 'enormous crush' on Prince William who wasn't there.
The girl whose operatic voice has entertained the Queen, the Pope and a U.S. president has shifted her musical tastes as well as her dress style. Destiny's Child are her current idols.
She appears to have less tiem for solo girl pop stars, some of whom she crictised recently for overt sexuality in their videos.
With a 10 Million fortune, Miss Church will have little difficulty maintaining her fashion requirements. She already has two stylists advising her on outfits (one in the UK and one in America), and describes herself as a clothesaholic.
'I do all the regular things that teenagers do, like having sleepovers with my friends," she said in an interview. "We gossip about clothes and boys and music. At the end of the day I'm just a teenage trying to work out what it all means.'
Currently studying for her GCSEs, she has expressed an interest in going to university or perhaps developing an acting career. - A. Boshoff
