Charlotte
became the global messenger for Ford as the 20th century closed with
an epic advert that featured her then new single "Just Wave
Hello" off her second album "Charlotte Church". The
Ford Global Anthem as it was known is believed to be one of the most
widely seen television advertisements in history reaching an
audience in excess of one billion people. The advert premiered
during November of 1999 but eventually was re-aired consistently as
the new year approached and for several months after as well. Ford
would eventually retire the advertising campaign but for many this
was their first exposure to Charlotte and remains a treasured
memory. For her part it is said Charlotte received well over
$500,000 to shoot the advert in Cornwall, England. In addition her
family drove away with two Ford cars, a top range Focus and
Explorer. Since the commercial aired, it is ironic how fortunes have
changed for Ford with the company now going through a massive
reoganisation following a year long tire scandal and a declining worldwide
economy. However Ford did manage to add yet another brand not seen
in the advert when it acquired Land Rover group from BMW in 2000.
Together with Jaguar and Aston Martin, these three British marques
make up the Premier Automotive Group, one of the only bright spots
in Fords product line. Needless to say, we think a re-edited version
of this advert would be a great idea for Ford whose current North
American campaign now consists of Chairman Bill Ford talking about
how much he loves Fords. Mr. Ford are you listening ? ;) Be sure to
