Just as
tuning in to the Morecambe and Wise show was once an unbreakable Christmas
tradition, nowadays the festive season just wouldn't be complete without a
helping of Heartbeat.
It's a
chance to sit back and wallow in pure nostalgia - - and you can bet your life
that whatever the weather turns out like anywhere else, fluffy white snow will
fall in time for the perfect Christmas Day in Aidensfield.
This year,
the Heartbeat team has come up with an extra exclusive.
Young
Welsh singing star Charlotte Church - - dubbed The Voice of an Angel - - is
making her acting debut in the festive special to be screened on Sunday,
December 19th.

She plays
young Katie Kendall, a youngster torn apart by her parents marriage split.
"It's
been really good fun even though it's my first acting job." said Charlotte.
"I
wasn't nervous maybe a bit worried at first, but it's turned out really well and
I like it." "I've
learned so much from the others. Phyllis Logan, who plays my mum, has been
really helpful and the cast and crew are so friendly." "I'm
used to being in front of a camera - - it's just like performing - - only
there's more to say and my photographic memory has really helped with the lines.
I did a couple of acting lessons, but that's all."
"Working
on Heartbeat is like being part of a big family and for the two weeks
we've been here we've become part of that family. "I'll
really miss playing football with the crew when we leave," she said.
Already, 13
year-old Charlotte has sung for President Clinton and the Pope. She's had a
best-selling album and she's constantly traveling, thrilling audiences around
the world. She was even
chosen by Ford to sing on their recent, record-busting TV ad that was screened
simultaneously around the globe to a viewing audience of billions. But despite
all that, she loves nothing more than to be back home with her family in South
Wales.
"When
I'm home I see my grandmother, grandfather, auntie, uncle and cousin every
day," she said. "I do miss home when I'm away, but my mum always
travels with me." "Mum is
my PA and Dad is my chaperone when he joins us." "We've
grown even closer in the last year and a half, since all this happened."
"Mum
gives me respect. When I'm working, doing an adult's job, she treats me like an
adult - - but we do scream at each other now and again," she laughed.
And despite
the success of that "adult's job", there's still a lot of the little
girl bursting to get out. "I
rollerblade, though I'm not that good, and I love computer games," said
Charlotte. "But
the best time for me has got to be sitting in front of the television and chilling
out in my pajamas with lots of sweets, crisps and Coke."
Tutor
She admits
to missing her friends when she's on tour - - even if it's only because she
finds the one-to-one attention she gets from her private tutor a little too
intense." "My
tutor's lovely, but it's hard work," said Charlotte. "You're
on your own and you can't let your mind wander. At school, you can ask your
friends for the answers!"
So how will
her schoolmates react to her acting debut?
"I know
my friend's will rib me," she joked. "But
people are entitled to their opinions." "As
long as some people find it entertaining. I don't really care about the
critics." "I know
what I can do. I always read what's written about me - - good and bad - - and I
don't believe either. "If you
believe the good, you'll get a big head and if you believe the bad, you'll get
depressed, so I take it all with a pinch of salt."
The new
Millennium looks like it will continue to be good for Charlotte. She's off on
a promotional tour for her new album, and then it's a TV series to be made in
America. "Acting
in Heartbeat has been a good experience for me," she said.
"I'll know what I expect next time."
