2001 Jaguar XKR

Price: $72,000+ (Depending on Package)

Where to buy: your nearest Jaguar dealer

My top pick for your automotive gift list is Jaguar's XKR.

In 1999, after 3 years of success, Jaguar launched a new high performance version of the XK8 called the XKR. Also available as a Coupe or a Convertible, the XKR looks almost exactly like an XK8 except for functional louvers on the bonnet, a mesh grill, larger 18" wheels and small spoiler on the boot lid. The surprise of course was under the bonnet, where a twin intercooled supercharged version of the Jaguar V8 was installed producing no less than 370 bhp.

While the top speed is still electronically limited to 155mph, the XKR acceleration is in a different league... 0-60 in only 5.2 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 13.5 seconds at 105 mph. With the fastest road Jaguar ever built, XKR owners can now play with Porsche 911 and Corvette drivers without sacrificing looks and luxury.

Sony AIBO ERS 210

Price: $1590

Where to buy: Click Here

AIBO Entertainment Robot is a totally new kind of robot — autonomous, sensitive to its environment, able to learn and mature like a living creature. Since each AIBO experiences its world differently, each develops its own unique personality — different from any other AIBO in the world.

AIBO is the result of Sony’s major development effort to create robots that can coexist with people — opening up limitless possibilities for interaction between man and machine. The name AIBO derives from Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) and Robot (“BO”) — plus the happy concurrence with the Japanese word “aibo,” which means “companion.”

In June 1999, the first-generation AIBO ERS-110 was launched — a limited edition of 5,000 at $2,500 each. All 3,000 in Japan sold in 20 minutes; all 2,000 available in the U.S. sold in four days. In November 1999, Sony created a special AIBO ERS-111 — a limited edition of 10,000 for which more than 135,000 orders were received. To say the least, it was a phenomenon.

Apple Macintosh G4 Cube

Though it’s less than one quarter the size of most PCs, the G4 Cube delivers far greater performance. With its built-in Velocity Engine, the G4 processor reaches speeds of over one billion calculations per second. Humbling even the fastest Pentium III. And giving you more than enough horsepower for the most demanding uses, from desktop publishing to making Desktop Movies, and from playing ultra-realistic 3D games to enjoying the latest DVD movies.

The 450MHz Power Mac G4 Cube comes ready for action with Mac OS 9, 64MB of high-performance RAM, 1MB of backside level 2 cache, a capacious 20GB Ultra ATA/66 hard disk drive, DVD-ROM drive with DVD-Video playback, and the ATI RAGE 128 Pro graphics card with 16MB of graphics memory.
