Charlotte Church chats about her
new movie
BBC Newsround Showbiz
12 June 2003

Teen singer Charlotte Church is
starring in her first movie, I'll Be There, in which she
plays a teenager who has just discovered her real dad.
Rachel from Newsround Showbiz caught up with her for a
chat.
NR: How did you
enjoy making the film?
Charlotte: I loved
it, I had such a great time. It was a whole different
experience from singing. It was great, it was only a
seven week shoot.
NR: Do you feel the release has been overshadowed
by the press reports of your private life?
Charlotte: Yeah, it
has, which is a shame really. What they're talking about
with my mum and my boyfriend just really isn't that
interesting. It's happening to loads of teenagers in
Britain now, it's just a natural process. Hopefully
people will start talking about the film.
NR: Your mum went to the premiere in London, but
not in Cardiff, was that because of the rift?

Charlotte: Yes and
no. I had loads of friends wanting to come to the
Cardiff one - there were 25 people who I couldn't ship
up to London.
And my family wanted to come to the big London one and
wear their posh clothes. That was mainly it, but there
was never going to be any showdown, neither my mum or
Steven is like that.
NR: So what do you want to say to set the record
straight?
Charlotte: I've said everything I can say to set
the record straight. And the papers are still writing
about it so I give up. If they don't like each other
then that's OK, as long as I still have a good
relationship with both of them.
NR: We've seen you as an angel, a pop star and
now a film star, who is the real Charlotte Church?
Charlotte: The real
Charlotte is the one sitting at home, chilling out. I do
enjoy going to the premieres and the recording studio,
but I do enjoy going home.
NR: Your chart single didn't do that well, so did
you decide to go into films from that?

Charlotte: No, the
dance record was a one off, I just fancied doing it. It
did much better than I expected, it got to number three.
I may do some more films, but I'm still going to sing.
NR: You and your mum approached Craig Ferguson
(co-star and writer of I'll Be There) about the film,
was that a big ambition of yours?
Charlotte: No, not
really. We were talking to the film company and they
recommended Craig. We met him and had a general chat and
he wrote the script and that was that.
