Charlotte's
new diary entries
| December 22
|
Courtesy of
Sony Classical UK and the
official Charlotte Site:
Charlotte
in the US
You’ve
only just come back to the UK from America in the last few
days, haven’t you?
Yes – today.
Did you get a chance to do any
Christmas shopping in the US, or any of the stuff which
girls of your age would love to do?
Yes – for two hours!
Two whole hours!
Ummm-hmmmm. Not much time at all…
On a more pleasing note, ‘Dream A
Dream’ has become your first Top 20 album hit in America.
Very impressive, assuming you are interested in chart
positions…
Well, I am impressed, but that’s
all a bit materialistic. What I like doing is performing
concerts and meeting the fans, stuff like that. It’s good
to sell records, because it means the fans like what I do
and are receptive to it, but in terms of ‘Oh, good –
I’ve beaten Christina or so-and-so’ then, no, that
doesn’t really matter to me at all.
Charlotte
at Christmas
Since
I can’t see you, because we’re talking on the telephone,
where are you now?
I’m in the back of a car, on my way to Heathrow Airport.
Where are you off to?
Vienna.
What, to do promotion?
No – Christmas in Vienna.
You’re spending Christmas in Vienna!
No! It’s a show which Sony do, with Placido Domingo and
Tony Bennett. A big concert in Vienna.
How are you going to spend Christmas?
I’m going to spend it at home with my family in the new
house. I finish work on the 22nd of December, when I come
home from Vienna. I’m taking my friend Jo to Vienna, and
my Grand-Mother and my Auntie Margaret and my Mum have gone
back home to tidy up the house. I’ve got all of my
Christmas presents – Duty Free shops are a God-send! –
so I’ll just have a normal, traditional family Christmas.
Basically, what will happen this year is that my Nan, my
Grand-Father, my Auntie, my Uncle, my cousin and my Mum and
Dad and me will all stay in my house. Everyone will arrive
at the house on Christmas Eve and then, on Christmas Day,
we’re all going to open our presents – and my Nan and my
Auntie are going to cook the dinner. After that, half the
family will fall asleep, and half the family will stay up
and play sad board games. Then we’ll probably go down to
my cousin Paul’s pub and have a massive party with all my
family. What I mean by ‘all my family’ is my
Grand-Mother, her sister Frances, her brother Terry, me, my
Mum, my Dad, Caroline, Mark, Elliott, all of Frances’s
children – which are Paul, Linda, Susan and Allison –
and their kids, and they’ve got about ten kids between
them all. So, as you can gather from all of that, it’s a
really massive family – even extended family – party.
Our family has the best parties.”
The year 2000 has just whistled by for
you. It’s been mad, hasn’t it?
Yeah…!
What’s in the diary for 2001 –
anything?
Concerts, maybe a film…it’s just all a bit ‘iffy’
about next year at the moment. We don’t know what we’re
going to do, but there’s lots of opportunities. I’ve
just got to mull them over, during the Christmas period,
which I am going to do.
Charlotte Church, you are obviously
happy, you are obviously full of life – stay that way.
I will!
Finally, I shall wish you a Merry
Christmas, a Happy New Year and leave you to continue with
the crazy whirl that you call life…
Thank you very much. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to
everyone.

Charlotte's
interview with the AP
| December 10
|
Charlotte Church
Listens to R&B
NEW YORK (AP) -
Charlotte Church may sing opera tunes, but that's not what's in
heavy rotation on her own stereo.
The child star,
whose Christmas album ``Dream a Dream'' is one of the nation's
best-selling discs, says she's been listening to R&B singers
such as R. Kelly and Jill Scott.
``I love Jill
Scott, she's wicked,'' the 14-year-old British singer said in a
recent interview with The Associated Press.
Church says she
used to listen to a lot of Eminem, but admits that the rap star's
brash attitude ``has kind of worn off on me ... it's boring.''
Eminem has made
it clear he's not a fan of teen pop, verbally attacking acts like 'N
Sync and on record.
``Poor
Christina,'' said Church. ``If he would have said that about me I
would have gone up to him and punched him on the nose.''
