CHARLOTTE CHURCH WANTS TO BRANCH OUT INTO MOVIES
Charlotte Church could be about to make her acting debut.
Church has revealed she's been in Los Angeles for the past few days having meetings with film bosses.
She says she doesn't want to make any mistakes by rushing into anything but thinks a small independent film with a strong cast would
be ideal.
The 14-year-old told Unmissabletv.com she already has a wish list of
actors she's like to work with: "Ben Kingsley, Al Pacino, Robert De
Niro, Kevin Spacey, Judi Dench, Angelina Jolie, Haley Joel Osment and
Jamie Bell."

'Ecleftic' Lineup for Carnegie Hall
| January 19
|
R&B singer Mary J.
Blige, reggae singer Steve Marley, and the Rock Steady Crew Dancers have been added to the lineup for rapper Wyclef Jean's Jan. 19 benefit concert at New York's Carnegie Hall.
The show, which will be a revue of musical eras since the 1930s, will also include guitarist Eric
Clapton, pop diva Whitney Houston, R&B trio Destiny's Child, and British teen singer
Charlotte Church. The concert — the first Carnegie Hall event to be headlined by a rap artist — will raise money for the Wyclef Jean Foundation, which donates musical therapy, instruments, and lessons to children around the world.
A highlight of the show will be Wyclef's unveiling of a new song — a duet with Clapton.
The song will be the latest in a series for one of hip-hop's most active collaborators. The rapper teamed with U2's Bono in 1999 for "New Day," a song they debuted at the NetAid benefit concert, and with Santana for "Maria Maria," a No. 1 hit from the best-selling Supernatural.
His solo albums — The Carnival and The Ecleftic: 2 Sides II a Book — are also peppered with team efforts, with appearances from Blige; Kenny Rogers; Earth, Wind & Fire; and the Neville Brothers.

Spotlight
on Louise Ryan | January

|
As you might
know, behind every great voice there is a great instructor. For
Charlotte that person is none other than Louise Ryan. South Wales
Echo/Western Mail recently did an interesting profile of Louise.
Here is is:
The Legend In Her Own Livingroom Who Helped To Find True Voice
Of Charlotte
Hannah Jones Arts And Media Editor
First Published: 02/01/2001
Western Mail
FIVE years ago, when I first met Louise Ryan, she made me stand in the corner of her front room and bark like a dog.
Dark hair piled on top of her head like a pineapple, mascara-caked eyes bright with enthusiasm and curiosity, she was an effervescent personality and a vocal teacher with a curious technique that relied more on laughter and experimentation than the rigidity of rules and regulations.
Behind the larger-than-life personality Louise Ryan has one memorable quality which is rarely heard outside her Cardiff home. Her singing voice is simply quite beautiful.
She is a star performer, a legend in her own livingroom who shines behind the scenes and is content to fulfil her role just around the corner of the glitz, glare and glamour of the music world.
She is the woman who “just helped find the true voice” of the nation’s most celebrated young diva, Charlotte Church.
But despite Church’s fame and fortune - estimated to be in the region of £10m - Ryan remains earnest and excited about the potential of the majority of her pupils who display the same “spark, that undeniable magic” as the teenage soprano did when she first went to her for singing lessons as an inexperienced nine-year-old.
Ryan, a graduate of the Welsh College of Music and Drama, says, “I always wanted to be a teacher.
I simply love it and can’t imagine doing anything else. I get to do something I adore every day and the rewards I get are mighty when I see the success of my
students."
She laughs when she dives into her memory bank and recalls the first time she heard young Charlotte sing.
“She was a tiny little tot who stood by my piano and sang Tomorrow from Annie, belting it out in true Annie style, and I thought, ‘Oh my God, she’s got a huge voice but she’s wrecking herself’, so I stopped her right away and made her do some exercises. Then she went up right up into the gods and this soprano-type voice suddenly came out very clearly, very beautifully, and I thought, ‘Watch out Aled Jones, we’ve got another one here’. She was just so quick and advanced, breathtaking really, and she is still that way.”
Ryan has been Church’s adviser, confidante and voice of criticism during the making of her first three albums - Voice of an Angel, Charlotte Church and Dream a Dream - and spends about three hours a week running through songs, exercises and giving the 14-year-old technical tips when she is in the country.
The only subject which dents Ryan’s countenance is the issue of the star’s recent court case in which her former manager, Jonathan
Shalit, alleged that the Church family had unfairly sacked him. He settled out of court for an estimated £2m.
“During the court case Charlotte’s mother Maria was painted as some greedy money-grabber who wanted to keep all the money in the family, and it’s total nonsense. The only thing they’ve treated themselves to is a new house in a more private part of Cardiff. I’ve heard that Jonathan is now trying to find the next Charlotte Church, but you can’t really manufacture someone like Charlotte.” Despite being a trusted member of the Church inner circle, Ryan does not venture to speak with authority on the prodigy’s next move, although she knows that the teenager “wants to try something new but she doesn’t know quite what yet”, and that “she wants to go to university but God knows what she’ll study but I know she loves ancient history”.
“Charlotte is still so young but growing up fast,” she says.
“She’s tremendously grounded and brilliant, a lovely young woman, and she will not lose her talent but she wants to explore other avenues.
She loves pop music and it would be nice for her to experiment with it, but we need to find the right material first. Even if it’s some sort of operatic sound with a pop backing, that would suffice for now.”
Ryan says she still gets nervous when the singer appears in live performances, worrying if she will breathe in the right place and position her voice correctly, but has faith in her ability to adapt to the challenges of both her jet-set life and career.
“I remember her first interview with an agent in London. The lady in question asked her if she wanted to be famous now or when she was older. This sweet little thing just blurted out, ‘Well now, of course’, and that’s our Charlotte all over.
When she started a lot of London newspapers said she was going to be ruined, doing far too much for her age, but they don’t know the Charlotte I do. If she was any ordinary child trying to do all of this it might be fair to think she would have been overdoing it, but she is an extraordinary child turning into an extraordinary young woman.
“She just has to open her mouth.”
