Church joins Streisand
PeopleNews
Welsh singer to duet with legend
Charlotte Church is planning to record a duet with Barbara Streisand after impressing the Hollywood legend at a dinner party in Los Angeles. Apparently, the Welsh starlet was enjoying a meal with Streisand and Barry Manilow when they challenged Church to sing a song from her favourite musical. Ever willing to impress her audience, the Welsh teenager rose to the challenge and sang Don't Rain On My Parade from Funny Girl. Babs was said to be so impressed that she agreed to a duet there and then.

Charlotte's Max-i-mum impact
Rhodri Evans, South Wales Echo
TEENAGE singing star Charlotte Church has got herself a boyfriend.
The 15-year-old Welsh singer was last night rehearsing for her first British solo concert at St David's Hall in Cardiff.
The show is being recorded for television spectaculars on both sides of the Atlantic.
And among the small audience listening to Charlotte rehearse was a young man in a blue tracksuit top and dark spiky hair.
Charlotte's mother introduced him to another guest at the rehearsal as "Max, Charlotte's boyfriend."
The news that Charlotte has a boyfriend is the latest sign that the girl with the voice of an angel is growing up.
Her choirgirl image has been replaced with a far more teenage look in recent months.
At the launch of American band N Sync's album last month she wore a batwing top and sported teased hair and glossy make-up.

Charlotte
flew home just before attack |
September 13
|
Western
Mail, 13 September 2001
Teenage singing star Charlotte Church flew home from America just hours before the terrorist strike which stunned the world.
The 15-year-old Cardiff schoolgirl caught an American Airlines flight from Los Angeles - the original destination of the two hijacked planes which destroyed the World Trade Centre.
The catalogue of terror began to unfold as Charlotte headed out of Heathrow for South Wales, and so did the calls from friends and family who feared she may still be in the States.
"It is very scary, very unnerving to think we were there just hours before," said Charlotte, who had been in America for a concert in Dallas.
"My first reaction was one of utter disbelief and then I just felt sickened," she said.
"I have been to the World Trade Centre and stood at the top. It was so huge it is impossible to imagine it crashing to the ground."
A friend of Charlotte's manager, Irving Azoff, is believed to have been killed in the Trade Centre tragedy.
"We have a lot of close friends in New York and we spent ages on Tuesday night trying to contact them to make sure they were alright," she added.
Charlotte, who was back in lessons at Howells School in Llandaff yesterday, is giving a charity concert at St David's Hall in Cardiff on Tuesday night.
And she revealed she will be dedicating a special song - her own version of John Lennon's Imagine - to the memories of those who have perished in the terrorist attack.
"America and Americans have been very kind to me and my heart goes out to them today," she said.
"I shall return to New York in 10 days for a promotional visit, but nothing will ever be the same for me there."
Charlotte, who has always disliked flying, said security on internal flights in America was almost non- existent.

Charlotte plans UK Solo
Concert

Charlotte Church has denied
trying to be more sexy, saying her evolving image is all just
part of growing up.
The 15-year-old singer, who was sporting a T-shirt with the
words Proud to be Welsh, was announcing plans for her first UK
solo concert.
Miss Church, who is set to
take her GCSEs next year, was disclosing details of a charity
concert which will be held in her home city of Cardiff on
September 18 this year.
She said: "I'm not trying to be all grown up, I'm just
growing up. I don't want to keep wearing white angelic things.
I'm not trying to be sexy. My fans wouldn't like that."
The event, which is her debut solo UK show, will be in aid of
The Noah's Ark Appeal to build Wales' first children's hospital
in Cardiff.
The millionaire singer, who has sold eight million records
worldwide and has sung in front of the Pope and former Bill
Clinton, said she was anxious about performing in Cardiff.
She said: "I'm nervous because it's a home crowd. All my
friends and family are going to be there. They're my biggest
fans and my worst critics."
The concert will feature songs
from her fourth album Enchantment, which will be released on
October 22, and singer Russell Watson is also expected to make a
guest appearance.
Ticket prices start at a minimum donation of £12 for the Noah's
Ark appeal. The show will be held in St David's Hall and also be
televised in the US and the UK.

Press Release announcing "Enchantment" |
August 22
NEW CHARLOTTE CHURCH ALBUM ENCHANTMENT
TO BE RELEASED ON COLUMBIA RECORDS OCTOBER 9, 2001
Los Angeles, CA -- August 20, 2001 -- Enchantment, the fourth album from Charlotte Church, the 15-year-old internationally acclaimed and multi-platinum singing
"popera" phenomenon, is scheduled for release on Columbia Records on October 9, 2001.
Recorded this summer in Los Angeles, Enchantment includes many in-concert favorites and highlights an extraordinary array of stylistically diverse material, from operatic arias and Celtic folk songs to Broadway show tunes and pop perennials. The album was produced by Keith Thomas
(Barbra Streisand, Brian McKnight) and features such special guests as renowned flamenco guitarist Jesse Cook and Charlotte's longtime accompanist, harpist Rhodri Davis.
With sales topping eight million worldwide and an international following that spans all generations and musical tastes, Charlotte first burst into the global spotlight at the tender age of thirteen with her smash debut album, Voice Of An Angel. The platinum-plus release made the Welsh teen the youngest artist ever to land at the top of the classical charts, as well the youngest ever to have a Top 5 hit on the UK pop album chart. Voice Of An Angel was followed by a second smash release, Charlotte Church, along with last year's hit Christmas album, Dream A Dream. She has also released a best selling concert video and
DVD, Charlotte Church In Jerusalem.
With Enchantment, Charlotte explores a wide range of music that is sure to garner appreciative new audiences, even as it appeals to her established fan base with dazzling vocal performances in the classical vein. Standouts include "La Habanera" from Bizet's Carmen and Strauss' "The Laughing Song." The album also highlights exquisite performances of Broadway standards, among them "Bali
Ha'i" and "Tonight." Also featured are renditions of Irish and Welsh folk classics such as
"Cerrickfergus," as well as "Papa Can You Hear Me?," first performed by Barbra Streisand in
Yentl.
Enchantment will be supported by an extensive promotional tour, including a number of high-profile television appearances, followed by a concert tour with dates to be announced as available.
