Boy George
'thrilled' By First Night Of Taboo
Boy George says
he's thrilled the audience seemed to enjoy the opening night of the
musical Taboo.
The production
follows George's journey from a wannabe to pop star and then charts
his heroin addiction and discovery of Eastern spirituality.
Among the
audience at the Venue Theatre in London was Charlotte Church, who
was accompanied by former Steps star H.
Also attending
were many of the characters who appear in the play and whose stories
also contribute to the musical.
After the show
Boy George admitted to being nervous but said he was delighted with
the way Taboo had been received.
"I was
very quiet before the performance which is unlike me, but now it's
over I'm thrilled that everyone seems to have enjoyed it so
much," he said.
Church said
afterwards she thoroughly enjoyed learning about a musical era from
before she was born.
"I didn't
really have the context for many of the references but the
production is fantastic. The songs, the acting, the singing and the
dancing were all magnificent and I really loved it," she said.
H added:
"It wasn't what I had expected at all but I thought it was
brilliant."
Among other
celebrities at the theatre were former Northern Ireland Secretary Mo
Mowlam, Lord Lloyd-Webber and Lily Savage star Paul O'Grady.

TEENAGE singing star Charlotte Church stole the heart of the
Grinch at a Florida theme park. The Welsh classical singer
met the Dr Seuss character - a green monster who tries to
steal Christmas - during a visit to Universal Studio's
Islands of Adventure in Orlando last weekend.
Accompanied by her parents, 15-year-old
Charlotte took a break from her hectic TV schedule and
braved high-octane rides.
She then flew to Washington where she
will be singing for President Bush and his wife during the
taping of the White House Christmas Special.

A Statement from Charlotte
Church | December
1
|
In a recent interview I
did for the London Sunday Times, a number of my quotes were taken
out of context and were subject to journalistic interpretation. This
misrepresentation of my statements has been quite upsetting for me
to read. Mr. Gerard questioned me on a wide range of issues, yet he
distorted my views on a variety of topics including the New York
Firemen, my appearance on Good Morning America and Sir Paul
McCartney.
In a personal visit to Ground Zero to offer my respect and prayers,
I was both moved and humbled by the experience, as anyone who
witnessed the devastation for themselves will agree. The New York
Firefighters display remarkable courage and sacrifice every day;
their work and efforts at Ground Zero are an extension of that. To
myself and others around the world, they are true heroes.
On the morning of November 12, I was in New York for a taping at
Good Morning America. While I was getting ready, I learned of the
crash of American Airlines Flight 587. I was horrified to learn of
this tragedy and was immediately troubled, as I know people who live
in the Queens area. The cancellation of my appearance was second to
my genuine concern for the safety and whereabouts of these people,
at the time of the crash. My deepest sympathies go out to all those
who were affected by this tragedy.
As for the statements on Sir Paul McCartney, I have nothing but the
greatest respect for him as a performer and as a person. His
influence on people’s lives has been immense over his
distinguished career and I can only hope to be such an inspiration
to others as he has been.
I have an undying love for America and I would never choose to
offend the place that holds a special place in my heart. America has
embraced me and it has become a second home for me. I owe an
immeasurable amount of gratitude to the American people and their
acceptance of me and my music in the states. I apologize for any
feelings that may have been hurt by this disgraceful reporter’s
story and want to thank all those in America for their continued
support.
