Charlotte Press Release | November 11

For Immediate Release November 11, 2002

Charlotte Church Statement
In response to the recent news stories, I find it necessary to  clarify that although my parents have always been my most trusted
advisors they have never acted as my official managers. I have, throughout my professional career, retained professional management,
currently by Irving Azoff and his management team.

My mother did an amazing job in matters of my career and of course has always been a terrific mother. She still remains very involved in my career but obviously on a different level due to my growing independence and own experience.

Now that I have completed my studies, everyone is in agreement that it is the appropriate time for me to embark on my US tour with my management and tour staff.

My parents have always protected me throughout the ups and downs of the media and my career and I thank them for it. I continue to seek the advice of my parents as I always have. As mother and daughter, our bond is stronger than ever.

It was my decision to terminate my business relationship with my ex-manager, Jonathan Shalit, not my mothers' and it's sad how Mr. Shalit continues to attack my mother at every opportunity and comments on me growing up as a teenager whilst knowing nothing about my situation and having no children of his own. It hurts me every time Mr. Shalit, after three years, still persists in publicly degrading my mother when she is worth a million of him.

More info on Charlotte's Dance Track | November 10

We've received more info on the track we announced to you yesterday from Charlotte's Team:

The "secret" dance track is called "The Opera Song" (Brave New World") by Jurgen Vries featuring CMC. It will be released in the UK only in mid-January. The story behind this is that Jurgen Vries is actually a trance producer called Darren Tate. Darren is signed to Sony UK under the Jurgen Vries pseudonym and asked if Charl would be interested in doing the song because he thought she would be perfect for the opera ad libs in the track. She was flattered to be asked, she liked the song and decided to do it for a bit of fun. She is completely aware that it will raise a few eyebrows, but the clue that this is is a one-off and not Charl's future musical direction is in the fact that she has used the "CMC" tag. (Charlotte Maria Church). She may well do more guest vocals in the near future, while she prepares to find and record songs for her next studio album.

Once again you can hear the track for yourself here.

Charlotte to appear on 'Today with Des and Mel'| November 10

Official Press Release for Charlotte's 5th Album | October 29

Columbia Records To Release Prelude…The Best of Charlotte Church

In North American Stores Tuesday, November 26
North American Tour Julie Andrews & Christopher Plummer Begins On December 3 In Cincinnati

(dateline - New York - Columbia Records - November 4)
The musical accomplishments of Charlotte Church are, of course a matter of record ... a lot of records. Over the course of four albums in as many years (1998's Voice Of An Angel, 1999's Charlotte Church, 2000's Christmas offering, Dream A Dream, and 2001's Enchantment), she has racked up international sales in excess of ten million units.

Prelude…The Best of Charlotte Church brings together -- for the first time in a single collection -- many of Charlotte's most powerful and captivating performances. With selections culled from each of her full-length albums as well as four newly recorded tracks, Prelude…The Best of Charlotte Church showcases the full range of her repertoire, serving as an ideal introduction to the artist as well as the ultimate Charlotte Church compilation.

Prelude… The Best of Charlotte Church reprises "Pie Jesu" (from Requiem by Andrew Lloyd Webber), the traditional Ulster air "My Lagan Love," "In Trutina" (from Carmina burana by Carl Orff), Cesar Franck's "Panis Angelicus," and "Amazing Grace" from Charlotte's debut album Voice Of An Angel. "Just Wave Hello," "La Pastorella" (from Soirees musicales by Gioachino Rossini), and the traditional Irish ballad "She Moved Through The Fair" are drawn from Charlotte Church. "Ave Maria" (adapted to the 1st Prelude of Johann Sebastian Bach) and "Dream A Dream - (Elysium)" (Charlotte's duet with Billy Gilman) were found originally on Dream A Dream. From Enchantment come "The Flower Duet" (composed by Leo Delibes with text by Edmond Gondinet and Phillipe Gille), Habañera" (composed by Georges Bizet), and "The Prayer" (duet with Josh Groban, composed by David Foster and Carole Bayer Sager). "All Love Can Be" was originally found on the movie soundtrack A Beautiful Mind. Rounding out Prelude…The Best of Charlotte Church are four new tracks: "It's The Heart That Matters Most," Gabriel Faure's "Tantum Ergo," Paul Simon's "Bridge Over Troubled Water," and Pietro Mascagni's "Sancta Maria."

Charlotte Church's concerts are consistent sellouts--from the Hollywood Bowl to an appearance before 70,000 fans in London's Hyde Park--and she has shared the studio and stage with a wide array of top artists: from Placido Domingo to Wyclef Jean; Billy Gilman to the London Symphony Orchestra. She's met Queens and First Ladies, Presidents and Popes…and is the youngest artist to ever have a #1 album on the UK Classical charts.

Charlotte Church will embark on a North American tour with Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer in conjunction with the release of Prelude…The Best of Charlotte Church.

Charlotte turns to Zeta Jones for tips| October 24

Charlotte turns to Zeta Jones for tips on how to be a film star
The Western Mail

SINGER Charlotte Church has been getting acting tips from Catherine Zeta Jones.

The 16-year-old from Cardiff is hoping to follow teen singers such as Britney Spears and Samantha Mumba into film roles and called on showbiz pal Catherine Zeta Jones, 33, who comes from Swansea, for advice on how to be a hit in Hollywood.

Her debut film The Family Business, which has scenes filmed in Cardiff and London, is due out in March. In the film, directed by Craig Ferguson, Charlotte plays the estranged daughter of an ageing 1980s pop star.

She said, "I've had acting tips from Catherine Zeta Jones. Craig told me I hardly need any expression because I've got quite an expressive face anyway. My eyebrows dance up and down and my mouth goes all funny so he said I don't need to overdo it."

Charlotte helps bring Sunshine | October 14

Stars bring a little sunshine - The Western Mail

Review Noah's Ark Appeal Gala Concert St David's Hall Dewi Savage, The Western Mail NOEL Sullivan made his first public appearance since Hear'Say's split during a charity performance in Wales at the weekend. Sullivan joined his friend Charlotte Church on stage for a rendition of Ain't No Sunshine. The concert was organised to raise funds for the Noah's Ark Appeal - 16-year-old Church is one of the two patrons. The soprano performed Gershwin's Summertime and John Lennon's Imagine.

But the night belonged to the South Wales Male Choir who have raised £42,000 in less than a year towards a children's hospital in Wales. Accompanied by Michael Bell's CPO and the excellent pianist Sian Gwawr, they manfully delivered the usual stirring mix of Verdi, musicals and Welsh hymns. Tribute was paid to the late Sir Harry Secombe by Iris Williams with an inspired Bless This House.

Award-winning Cardiff sisters Sarah and Anna Cresswell were exceptionally good on marimba and violin respectively, and the rock glamour and sublime raucousness of Bonnie Tyler was a joy.

Charlotte Tops Bill for Noah's Ark Concert | October 10

The Western Mail
TEENAGER Charlotte Church will top the bill at a showcase of Welsh talent this weekend to raise money for a children's hospital for Wales.

The Gala Spectacular at St David's Hall, Cardiff, in aid of the Noah's Ark Appeal is the brainchild of Côr Meibion De Cymru, the South Wales Male Choir, and will bring several prominent Welsh names together under one roof for the first time.

Headliners include Iris Williams, who is flying in from her American home for the event, and Bonnie Tyler.

Charlotte Church, who is patron of the appeal alongside actress Catherine Zeta Jones, will perform a solo, join the choir on stage for the grand finale and receive a £25,000 cheque from the choir's president, Lord Gordon Parry of Neyland.

Côr Meibion spokesman Brian Williams said the choir had already topped its promised cash total. "At the start of the year we pledged to raise £25,000 for the appeal," he said. "We have far exceeded it already as before we went on tour to Australia four weeks ago we had £35,000. When the proceeds of the concert are totted up too we hope to have about £50,000."

Mr Williams says the 1,000 ticket holders are in for a night to remember.

"It is wonderful that Charlotte Church has agreed to perform with us," he said. "Also, Iris Williams has requested to sing her own special arrangement of a song called Bless This House with us, so we have all been feverishly learning it. "And there will be all sorts of song from shows and Welsh hymns. It promises to be a great night and there are still a few tickets left." The eclectic mix of traditional and modern also includes comedian Owen Money and Côr Meibion will be joined by the London Welsh Male Voice Choir and the Roland Gregory Orpheus Singers from Australia.

Charlotte's New Pop Venture | October 2

Following up on our exclusive news of Charlotte's upcoming single and holiday releases the Western Mail released a story yesterday giving official confirmation to what we reported. You can read our original report here.

Karen Price, The Western Mail

CHARLOTTE Church has always been adamant that she is not going to be the next Britney Spears.

But it looks as though she has now changed her mind with the announcement that she is moving towards pop.

The teenage singer, who shot to fame and has earned millions of pounds through her renditions of classical music, has revealed that her new single, to be released in December, will be more pop than opera.

But her former manager Jonathan Shalit, who was sacked by the Church family, says it is a "misguided" move. The new direction means Charlotte will be going head-to-head with pop singers such as Britney Spears and Samantha Mumba instead of the older classical market.

The single will be taken from her forthcoming debut film, The Family Business, in which the Cardiff-born star plays the estranged daughter of an ageing 1980s popstar. Charlotte's new song will feature on the film's soundtrack and will be performed by the soprano in the film.

Despite her earlier claims, Charlotte - dubbed the Voice of an Angel - now wants to branch out from classical music. "I admire the ability in artists to break free out of the commercial plane and say, `I am different and I'm proud of it'," she said. "There's too much segregation between different musical types. If you're an R'n'B artist, you have to be R'n'B. If you're a classical artist, you have to be classical."

Her forthcoming pop-based single was announced on her website yesterday but the title has not been revealed - although she has been covering John Lennon's Imagine.

But Mr Shalit, who discovered Charlotte and engineered her rise to fame at the age of 12, believes she is mistaken.

"If it's true that she's moving towards pop, I think it's very short-sighted and Charlotte Church as a pop artist will not sell records. If she remains the classical crossover artist she is, she will continue to sell millions of records. But Charlotte moving towards pop would be as ridiculous as a pop artist trying to sing classical. She is unique at what she does and fantastic at what she does, so should continue with what she does."

Charlotte, who counts soul diva Erykah Badu among her musical influences, has worked with pop stars in the past. She has recorded a song with rapper Wyclef Jean who has also worked with Tom Jones. "I've sung with Wyclef Jean in New York on a song called Summertime," said Charlotte. "I'd love to sing with Craig David - he's gorgeous. And Ja Rule has got a really different sound."

But Charlotte is not breaking away from classical music altogether. She will also release a greatest hits album in time for Christmas. The Best Of Charlotte Church will be available in UK stores from November 4 and will feature tracks including Pie Jesu - the song which shot her to fame.

Her film, The Family Business, will be in cinemas next March. misguided," he said. - Karen Price
