Charlotte's Coming to Atlanta!| May 22

Charlotte Church To Make American Orchestral Debut with Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
Welsh Soprano Phenomenon to Perform September 15th

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra announced today that Welsh singing phenomenon Charlotte Church will be performing a special concert with the ASO on September 15 at 8 p.m. in Atlanta Symphony Hall. The ASO concert represents Charlotte Church's major American orchestra debut. Single tickets for the concert will go on sale May 7th and can be ordered by calling 404-733-5000. The concert will feature Charlotte Church in Atlanta Symphony Hall, presenting audiences with an up front and personal concert experience versus a large commercial venue. Charlotte Church has marveled the world. She has performed for Pope John Paul II's Christmas concert at the Vatican, at the Ford Theatre for President and Mrs. Clinton, and during the Prince of Wales' 50th birthday celebration. Charlotte Church's debut album, Voice of an Angel, was a major success, topping Billboard's Classical Charts at the No. 1 spot. Her latest album, released last November on Sony Classical and entitled Charlotte Church, enjoyed the No. 2 spot. Highlights of the album include a new song "Just Wave Hello," produced by Trevor Horn and three classical favorites - "La Pastorella" from Rossini's Soirées Musicales, "O mio babbino caro" from Puccini's Gianni Schicchi and "Summertime" from Gershwin's Porgy and Bess. In all, Charlotte Church's recordings have sat on Billboard's Classic Charts at No. 1 for 55 weeks and No. 2 for 20 weeks. Charlotte Church's international success has been instantaneous. Her debut album was certified gold in the U.S. a little more than a month after its release and is still near the top of Billboard's Classical Crossover chart, after maintaining a three-month run at No.1. Church made history when she became the youngest solo artist to ever have a debut recording enter the top 30 on the "Billboard 200." Church has also gained worldwide attention with appearances in recent television ads for Target, the Ford Motor Company and an episode of CBS's Touch by An Angel.

Charlotte's Official Classical Brits Response | May 16

I know we are a little late posting this here but for all its worth here is what Charlotte had to say about winning her first ever Classical Brit:

"It's really funky, that I have won this prestigious award, considering I'm classified as more of a crossover classical artist. I'd like to think that this will inspire more young people of my age."

Well she certainly inspired me so she's thinking on the right track:)

Charlotte keeps the Charts on Fire! | May 16

This was kindly sent to me by Dave of Team USA:

"At 13 years old, and with a musical style bent toward the classical,
opera wonder kid Charlotte Church is not your typical Christian
artist. But that fact hasn't kept Church's debut album, Voice of an
Angel (Sony Classical/Word), from soaring to the top of Christian
music sales charts. This month the album peaks at No. 1 on CCM
Magazine's Top Album listing."

Great work once again by Charlotte, good to hear that the first album still has a lot of life left in it!

Charlotte's goes Christmas for Third Album! | May 14

If you have taken a look at the newest editions to the Classical Brits Photo Gallery you will see the scan from the article that mentions Charlotte's working on her third album which will be a Christmas one to be due out in September. The article also drops hints to a possible USA Tour.

CBS Miniseries Update | May 13

Sorry for the confusion but Charlotte will not be part of the CBS Miniseries "Jesus"  the voice heard during the commercial for the show is none other than Sarah Brightman.

Charlotte singing on CBS Miniseries? | May 12

Today I saw a commercial for a CBS miniseries entitled "Jesus", in the background of the commercial I believe it was Charlotte singing Pie Jesu. In fact I'm 99 percent sure it was her. What this leads me to believe is that they will play one or two of Charlotte's songs during the course of the miniseries just like they did with Joan of Arc on NBC a while back. Basically lets just all keep on the lookout for the commercial and I will do my best to determine if she will actually be played during the series.

Charlotte's Heart of Gold | May 6

We all know that Charlotte has the Voice of an Angel but here's two stories that prove she has the heart of one.

£3.7m child wards plea
The South Wales Evening Post
Around 1,000 children a year from Swansea, Neath, Port Talbot and Carmarthenshire are expected to receive care at a new children's hospital for Wales being built in Cardiff. The Noah's Ark Appeal aimed at raising £3.7million towards the first phase of the hospital was launched yesterday.Organisers are confident enough money will be donated in time for work to begin next year.At the moment children needing specialist care not available locally have to travel as far as Great Ormond Street in London. The new hospital will put an end to this.It will be built next to the University Hospital of Wales at the Heath in Cardiff but will be self-contained.Clinical director of child health at the Heath Mark Drayton told the Post: "What we are not trying to do is take children away from district hospitals in places like Swansea and Carmarthen. "We will be supporting these hospitals, not taking over from them. "They provide an excellent service for the local population. But there are times when children are critically ill or need specialist care. "We want them to have specialist care in Wales and this hospital will be for the whole of Wales," he said. Around 8,000 South Wales children receive care annually at the Heath, with about 1,000 of these coming from South West Wales. Those 1,000, along with the children who go over the border to England for treatment, are expected to benefit. The Noah's Ark Appeal, launched by singing star Charlotte Church, will help pay for two 25-bed wards with supporting staff and family-friendly facilities. The building will also include a main entrance and the shell of a third children's ward, to be commissioned in phase two. The total cost of the hospital is estimated at £21million. Much of the construction bill will be met by private finance initiatives. Appeal chairman Stanley Thomas said: "Wales is the only country in Europe not to have its own hospital for sick children, a hospital to provide the seriously ill with the specialist care and treatment local hospitals may not be equipped to offer." He said Welsh children who have to travel for treatment face added distress and trauma. Chairman of Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust David Durham said the new hospital would link in to its existing paediatric provision, though this would eventually be replaced by new facilities including a children's surgical unit.

BBC NEWS
Thursday, 4 May, 2000, 15:16 GMT 16:16 UK
An appeal to raise £4m for a new children's hospital for Wales is under way amid criticism that the money should come from the Welsh Assembly.
Cardiff-born child star Charlotte Church helped promote the fundraising for the unit which could open on the University Hospital of Wales site in Cardiff next year.
But amid appeals for the public to respond quickly, there is criticism that the Assembly has not provided the necessary funding.
Wales is one of very few countries in Europe that does not have a hospital specialising in the treatment of sick children.
It is hoped the new 50-bed unit would provide facilties specifically for children and their families.  Sister Pat Thomas said: "We're a centre in Wales of excellence.  "But when it comes to providing facilities for parents like beds and bathrooms or kitchen facilities, we're very, very poor."  But Conservative health spokesman David Melding AM said: "We would have funded the hospital from capital funds and, instead of building an extension to the Assembly building, we would have built the whole hospital."  Doctors and parents have campaigned for many years to establish a specialist unit.  The project is now a step nearer with the launch of the appeal to raise the £4m necessary to build the first phase of the paediatric unit.  It will replace existing facilities for children at the University Hospital of Wales. The ultimate aim is to build a complete hospital at a cost of £22m which will replace existing facilities at UHW which staff and relatives of patients say are unsatisfactory.

Thanks to Dave and Steve of Team USA for sending these to me!
