Charlotte's Second Album Sets Record

Charlotte’s Second Album Sets New Record

Karen Price
22/11/1999

AT the tender age of 13, Charlotte Church has broken more records this week by becoming the youngest person to see her second album go straight into the Top 20.

The pint-sized opera singer entered the Guinness Book of Records last year as the youngest ever solo artist to have an album in the Top 20 - now she has matched that success by taking the number 13 slot.

Her new album, called Charlotte Church, went platinum before being released and after only one week in the charts she has tripled sales in the UK for the equivalent period last year, said Shalit Entertainment.

In the US, Charlotte has been the biggest-selling British act for seven consecutive weeks this year, outselling stars such as Robbie Williams, Elton John and The Corrs, a spokesman added.

Charlotte will be appearing on BBC Wales’s Children In Need programme on Friday.

And Jamie Shaw, the 14-year-old singing sensation from Dinas Powys whose debut album, When You Believe, was released last month, will also be making an appearance to help raise funds for the BBC charity.

Charlotte, who is still trying to decide which of many offers - including singing before the Pope or President Clinton - she wants to take for Millennium Eve, and Jamie, will be joining presenters Rhodri Williams and Frances Donovan in the television studio for the live broadcast.

The man voted the world’s favourite Phantom of the Opera, Peter Karrie, will be performing, as will Jae Alexander - who joins Peter on his current BBC Wales show Peter Karrie Unmasked.
