Strong Sales For Second
Album
16/11/1999
JUST hours after
its release, Charlotte Church’s second album was on course for
chart success.
Record stores
were reporting strong sales of the album, called simply Charlotte
Church.
More
than 300,000 copies of the album were delivered to record stores
throughout the UK ready to go on sale at 9am yesterday.
Hundreds of
thousands of other copies were delivered to countries across the
globe including America, Australia, New Zealand, the Far East and
Europe.
Although
product manager for the album Chris Griffin said it was too early to
predict sales figures, in Char-lotte’s home city of Cardiff record
shops were inundated by fans buying the first copies of the album.
And record
store managers said its release has brought about a renewed interest
in her debut album, Voice
of An Angel.
Nigel
Holmes, manager at Virgin Megastore in Cardiff, said Charlotte
Church was on course to become the store’s best selling
album since the release of Tom Jones’s Reload.
“It
will probably be our number one without a doubt,” said Mr Holmes.
“Last year’s album is doing well off the back of it, as is her
new video.” Caroline Hayhoe , manager at Cardiff’s HMV, said,
“It has done very well today and has sold in the region of 100
copies, which is very good.”
She said
Charlotte’s video, which features her first solo concert
performance along with interviews with the young soprano and her
friends and family, had been last week’s bestselling video.
The new album
contains 17 tracks, including the popular Welsh songs Guide
Me, O Thou Great Redeemer and Men
of Harlech.
Charlotte
also performs Just Wave Hello from the Ford commercial,
Rossini’s La Pastorella and Puccini’s O Mio
Babbino Caro.
