Tomorrow The World For Charlotte

Tomorrow The World (Well, Monday) For Our Charlotte

Karen Price And Anna Meredith
30/10/1999

TEENAGER Charlotte Church is to star in the world’s biggest simultaneous advertising campaign - expected to reach one billion people.

It could make the Cardiff schoolgirl the world’s most famous child star.

The 13-year-old Voice Of An Angel singer will appear in the Ford advert and provide the music for the two-minute commercial which will be aired on Monday.

The car giant has spent around £6m to block book airtime in countries around the world - known as a global roadblock - for what is thought to be the largest ever screening of one commercial.

Charlotte filmed her slot two months ago at a spectacular cliff-edge amphitheatre in Penzance, Cornwall.

She was approached after an advertising executive devising the campaign heard her voice on the radio.

Her aria Just Wave Hello, specially written for her by Danny Beckerman, will potentially be heard in 300 million households.

Top record producer Trevor Horn was drafted in to work on the music which will be accompanied on screen by people from different cultures gesturing hello and goodbye.

The ad was filmed in nine countries, taking six months to make, and is designed to welcome the new millennium, as well as celebrate the diversity of Ford customers.

Charlotte said, “It’s an amazing song and commercial - and for Ford to use Just Wave Hello as part of this ad is cool.”

It crowns a year in which she has met the Queen, the Pope, taken tea with US President Bill Clinton and presented an award at the MTV Music ceremony in New York.

She is also due to take part in next weekend’s closing ceremony for the Rugby World Cup at the Millennium Stadium.

The commercial will be screened at 9pm.

Charlotte will also perform Just Wave Hello live on MTV tomorrow.
