CHARLOTTE CHURCH TO
DEBUT AS TV ACTRESS
Nick Dermody
21/07/1999
TEENAGE singing
star Charlotte Church is to make her debut as a television actor
with an appearance in ITV’s Sunday night ’60s drama Heartbeat.
The 13-year-old
from Cardiff, discovered by chance during a TV talent show and now
making as much of an impression in America as in Britain, is also to
star in Ford’s biggestever TV advertising campaign, to be launched
this autumn.
The revelations
about her acting roles suggest that the former Llandaff choirgirl,
dubbed Wales’s pocket diva, has a firm grip on how to handle
publicity.
They came while
she was filming a 10-minute documentary about her life for American
news channel CBS in Cardiff this week.
The last time
Charlotte appeared in a television documentary, a BBC Wales
production in March this year, she was seen being signed up by
America’s biggest showbusiness agent, William Morris.
A member of
Rhiwbina Youth Drama Group, she is to appear in a Christmas special
edition of the retro ITV show, a feast of classic cars and pop songs
from the era, playing the role of Katie, a Welsh singer.
She said,
“I’m looking forward to Heartbeat. Acting is
something I would like to do.”
Filming is
expected to start in about a month, after she has taken a holiday in
Turkey with her family.
Charlotte’s
part in the Ford advert has been filmed and will be released just
before her new album in November.
The advert is
three and a half minutes long, but some cinema and television
showings will be shorter.
Her first
album, Voice of an Angel, has already gone double
platinum in Britain, selling more than 600,000 copies.
On the other
side of the Atlantic the album has gone gold, selling more than
500,000 copies.
