Teenage singing star Charlotte Church tonight proved she was
faithful to her roots by throwing her 18th birthday party in a city
centre hotel just a stone’s throw from her mother’s home.
The location of the party remained a closely guarded secret but the
star appeared unfazed by the throng of press photographers gathered
outside The Beverley Hotel in the Pontcanna area of Cardiff.
The party, in the smart 17-room hotel with a bar with “real pub
atmosphere”, appeared to be a simple affair with no sign of rumoured
guests Justin Timberlake or Robbie Williams.
Instead the international star, now in control of an estimated £16
million, celebrated her coming of age with family and friends in
Cardiff, where she still lives.
Church looked sophisticated in a matching white below-the-knee skirt
and spaghetti-strapped cropped top with gold trim, paired with
high-heeled gold sandals.
She arrived by car at around 8.30pm and posed with her mother Maria
and step-father James on the steps of the period double-fronted
hotel before joining the party.
Welshman Noel Sullivan, former member of pop band Hear’Say, was one
of the guests.
Church started her weekend of celebrations in London and was spotted
leaving the Westbury Hotel in the capital’s city centre with a group
of girlfriends early this afternoon.
Church had said before her birthday: “It’s just the usual, family
and friends. A family party and then with my friends.”
Church’s fortune, earned selling more than 10 million records since
she started singing at the age of 11, is expected to remain in a
trust fund for when she wants it.
