SHE may have inherited a whopping £16m
but Charlotte Church treated her friends and family to a night out
at her Cardiff local last night!
On the day the new millionairess turned 18, the Voice of an Angel
star chose to stay true to her roots by hosting a good-old fashioned
knees-up in The Beverley Hotel - just yards from her parents' B&B in
Cathedral Road.
The wealthy teenager could have easily afforded the kind of lavish
bash supermodel Kate Moss held for her 30th birthday last month.
But instead, she shunned glitz and glamour for an informal buffet
for 90 people in her local pub, which mum Maria booked before
Christmas.
Set in the capital's plush Pontcanna area, The Beverley serves up
no-nonsense pub grub for around a fiver and is famed for its quiz
nights.
Kate Shelton, pub manager, said: "All the staff and the management
here wish Charlotte a very happy 18th birthday and we are very glad
to cater for her. We're very pleased she's decided to have her party
here on the street where she lives. They all come here from time to
time."
Arriving with her mum, Charlotte was met on the steps of the pub by
her step-dad James and her eight-year-old cousin Elliott Cooper-Clucas,
where she posed for photos.
With her hair poker straight, Charlotte looked stunning in a
gipsy-look bustier and sequinned skirt, bought from chic boutique
Body Basics in Pontcanna.
Waiting inside was ex-Hear'Say singer Noel Sullivan and his mum
Claire, both pub regulars.
He promised he would be leading the chorus of Happy Birthday - and
he delivered the treat of the night when he and Charlotte performed
a duet for their delighted guests.
Charlotte's favourite CDs were on the sound system but anyone
tempted to let their hair down too much would get a ticking off.
Manager Kate Shelton joked: "We haven't got a licence for dancing so
I'll be telling them off if they do!"
Charlotte was given a pink and white, 18-inch single-tier cake,
which she washed down with a glass of bubbly.
Other members of her family at the bash included her nan, Maria's
mum, aunt Caroline, Maria's sister, and James' parents.
But Charlotte refused to reveal if she was expecting her latest
boyfriend Kyle Johnson, with whom she shared a romantic meal on
Valentine's Day in Cardiff Bay.
One thing was for sure, her two-timing ex Steven Johnson was not
welcome.
Security guards turned away former Wales rugby star Martyn Madden -
he was after a quiet pint and didn't realise the pub was closed for
the night to regulars!
The soprano kicked off her birthday weekend on Friday night with
Kyle and her friends at one of London's trendiest clubs.
The singer travelled to the capital by limo on Friday afternoon,
where she had her hair done in a top salon before dolling herself up
in a seriously glamorous, long, black dress.
Guarded by her beefy minder, Charlotte treated her mates to a night
out at Boujis in South Kensington.
But while she enjoyed a few drinks, there was no sign of a hangover.
Dressed in a lemon rugby shirt and a birthday badge, she emerged
glowing from the Westbury Hotel in central London yesterday morning
and made her way back to Cardiff.
Maria revealed her daughter had admitted to a bit of a sore head -
but denied she stumbled because she was drunk.
She said: "Her night out went really well - she said she had a great
time with her friends. She was a bit bemused by the scrummage of
photographers outside the club.
"When she left one of the clubs she was in the middle of the crowd
and someone pushed her in the back and she fell.
"Charlotte told me, 'Mum, I had a drink but I was not hammered. I
was pushed then I tripped and fell'. But apart from that she had a
wonderful time.
"I told her my hangover cure before she went and she stuck to it.
"I said she should have a glass of orange juice, a glass of water
and two aspirins before she went to bed.
"She also kept a glass of water by her bedside in case she woke up
feeling thirsty. That always works for me if I've had a few!"
