Text from South Wales Echo

SHE has sung for royalty and heads of state but each Christmas Charlotte Church secretly performs at a Mass service in Cardiff. The 14-year-old has sung at St. Mary of the Angels Roman Catholic Church in Canton where she was baptised for the last three years. And this Christmas Eve she stunned parishioners and clergy with an exclusive rendition of King of Kings.

Charlotte stood grinning afterwards as she received rousing applause. Father John Maguire then told the congregation: "It's the third year Charlotte has sung at St. Mary's and we hope she continues to do so. "We all saw her on Songs of Praise as she led us on a journey through the Holy' Land and it's wonderful to see her here. "Let's hope she remains with us in the parish of St. Mary's."

Charlotte, dressed in a luxurious black ankle- length coat, looked every bit the star as she sat with friends and family at the front of the church. After the service she left via a side door and was whisked away into the night. One parishioner, who did not wish to be named, said it was a "thrill to hear her voice" on Christmas Eve. She said: "This is the second year I've been to Mass at St. Mary's Church and it's such an honour to see her performing after the success she's had.

"I hope she comes back."
Parishioners and clergy at St. Mary's have kept Charlotte's annual performance a closely guarded secret.

Her name is even with held from the programme for the Mass service. The church had feared publicity would deter the teenage chorister from appearing each year.
