Review: Charlotte Church |

by Lorna Doran, icWales
Well, this was always going to be an interesting gig:
Cardiff's famous young songstress belting out hits to her
adoring public on home ground.
The curvaceous Miss Church strutted her stuff in knee-high
boots and sparkly shrug in front of a capacity crowd that
would have been just as thrilled with our Charl if she'd
sang nursery songs.
There's no doubt that Charlotte can sing - she hit some
notes at Friday night's gig that were spine-tinglingly good.
It's what she chooses to sing that's interesting.
We had her 'hits' to date, (though she left Crazy Chick
for the encore), interspered with the funky Rhythm is
Gonna Get You, Ain't Nobody and - rather less
successfully - Prince's Kiss.
She gave a hauntingly good rendition of Kate Bush's Man
With a Child in his Eyes - one her personal favourites,
she told us.
She looked at ease, danced sexily and gave a performance
that didn't disappoint her adoring fans who clapped, whooped
and danced in the aisles on cue.
She mixed it up musically, chatted to the crowd, waved to
family and friends (I spotted mum Maria but couldn't see
Gavin), and apologised for having a short attention span.
Her Cardiff fans love her because really, she's just like
them, but with this extraordinary musical gift.
What she needs now is to find THE song that will cement her
immediate future in the fickle world that is pop. Robbie had
his Angels - and our angel needs one, too.
A patriotic 4 out of 5
